    VIN Tag on Side Panel

My '82 has had some previous body work done, I am guessing in the 80's or 90's from what the previous owner told me when I picked it up.

The question I have is whether the printed VIN tag on the body side panel by the driver's seat is original or an aftermarket reprint done when part of the rear side panel was replaced?

This is the VIN tag on my Jeep, and it does not match the reprints available from Bear Creek Survey in Durango Colorado.

The other oddity is that there is no manufacture date on my VIN tag.

    Thoughts?

That is original. Mine both have them. Vin tags changed in 81 IIRC and a 17 digit vin was made mandatory.

    Thanks!

What is odd is the missing manufacture date.

Any idea where to get a reprint if I do a complete repaint?

Simply put painters tape over the decal when you repaint. Then remove when done repainting to keep original decal intact. That's what I did and worked out great.
