It's 5.3L/4l60e time!

Well the 5.3L/4l60e fairy stopped by my house today.
I after doing more research and saving a few pennies
I decided on putting a 5.3L/4l60e drivetrain in the wifes
cj8. It was just dropped off today. so I'm hope that my goal
of a full rolling chasis will happen before the end of the year.
O and the house painting is almost done (95.9% done)!
here's some pic's:

Congrats on the purchase. I am jealous. That is the next phase of my project but got pushed back (way back) when I got laid off last June. I guess I will have a lot of information to look back on whenever I do get to do it.

Thanks! It's out of a 2008 gmc sierra 1500. It only has 12,000 miles on it. I got it from schram auto parts in Waterford MI. I can't wait to get this thing in and running.
How's your build going Randyzzz? It has been sometime since i checked in on your build. My next step is motor mounts and a tranny to transfercase adapter. I haven't advanced adpaters or Novaks? Novak's kit replaces the 4l60e's output shaft. And the advanced adapters kit replaces the input shaft in the dana 300 + you have to cut the 4l60e's output shaft . Any remarks?

I have a remark.

You may want to look into the Stak transfer case. They can be bought to bolt to your transmission. Depending on what mods you want to do to the d300, it may not cost any extra. Add up adapter + gears + outputs + rebuild. Now if you're just going to run a stock case you'll be much cheaper with the d300.

I plan on running the stock dana 300. I've owned a few jeeps with this setup and have had no problems! Staks makes a nice moster box (as they call it) transfercase. But $3,000.00 is some money to spend on a jeep my wife is going to use as a summer toy. they don't list an adapter for 4l60e to a dana 300. I'll call because they do mention something along the lines of " we have input shafts for the dana 300 for all gm transmissions". and they didn't have any prices on their adapters? As of right now I plan on going with the novak adapter kit.
thanks,

Progress has been a bit slow on mine due to weather and a temporary distraction/winter driver, but I should be back on it this weekend.

I went with Novak. I really like their products and Eric has been a great help to me. I had to replace the output shaft because there isn't any aftermarket source for a 241OR input shaft. Regardless, I like the simplicity and quality of the Novak adapter. Gives you a good chance to make sure the trans is ok while you're at it.

drivetrain

well I have been on the hunt. I know that I was asking about adapters earlier in my thread.
but I think that has changed. both AA and Novak state that if you stay with the stock front driveshaft you will have no clearance issues.
Well I have been using my search button so much this past couple of week I think I broke it.LOL! Not really. all the guys I have talked to
on the phone and the builds I have found either say: driver side drop, no clearance with the dana 300 with stock skinny front drive shaft,
atlas(expensive),np 205, and or don't do the dana 300 adpater passenger side drop. I know that this is not a new problem. and it has
been well docummented on the net. but it is time for me to decide what I'm going to use. here is some of the info I have found.

points:

--------------------------------------------------
-Advance adapters sells a kit for the 4l60e to dana 300. I like this kit because it replaces the input shaft in the dana 300 to match the
27 spline of the 4l60e. it also hooks up the gm vss sencor. but you have to cut the 4l60e's output shaft down to size. that I don't like.
and they also mention depending on setup you might have to use small diameter front driveshaft.
cost: $517.50

http://www.atlas-tc.com/pdf/50/50-0432.pdf

-novacks also sells a kit for the 4l60e to dana 300. I don't like this kit because you have to pull the tranny apart to replace the rear out
shaft of the 4l60e and it decreases the spline count to match the dana 300 (23spline). and you still have clearance problems with a
skinny front drive shaft.
local tranny shop :$140.00 for tailshaft replacement
adapter:$547.98

http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_4l63.htm

-jb conversions sells one too but I could not find a listing on thier site. here is a link to thier website showing how tight it is with the
700r4/dana 300:

http://www.jbconversions.com/products/adapters/1001.php

----------------------------------------------------
-dana 300 is 8.5" from the center of the input shaft to the center of the front drive shaft
output.

-atlas II is 9.5" from the center of the input shaft to the center of the front drive shaft
output.

-np205 is 9.5" from the center of the input shaft to the center of the front drive shaft
output.

---------------------------------------------------
-dana 300 is only offer in passenger side drop. but you can either flip this transfer case for driverside drop or replace the housing
with a stak's and make it a driver side drop tc. http://www.stak4x4.com/

-atlas II tc can be bought either driver side or passenger side drop.

-np205 came eitherway from the factory(passenger side or driver side drop)

------------------------------------------------

-dana 300 come with a 2:62:1 low range. unless you upgrade to aftermarket 4:1($988.95 for kit)

-atlas II comes with what ever you want (for the most part. just bring the cash)

-np205 comes with a 1:98:1 low range. unless you upgrae to aftermarket 3:1($1349 for kit)

------------------------------------------------

I really would like to stay with the passenger side drop. otherwise I will have to go driver side drop and find a new front axle.
I think I'll look some more. but if you have any advice lets here it. and pic's too.LOL

thanks,
7jeeps7kings
