SEMA stuff
Here's a few shots from today's wandering around SEMA.
We have to start with a Gr8Tops top on a LJ, Daystar was displaying it and it was in the lobby of the South Hall, right outside the Truck and Off-Road section. (Matt: I'll email you some more photos within a few days)
There were maybe a half-dozen JK's one display by various manufacturers with top-tents. Maybe these are getting popular.
A company called Icon is building BRAND NEW CJ3b's. Can't for the life of me imagine why
Icon also has been building brand new FJ45's, I think they sell for around $100k, so they must have sold enough of them to convince them that the CJ3b was a good idea. I think this one is cool.
But NOT as cool as this amazingly restored original FJ45 with a high-tech GM mill. This was my favorite vehicle at SEMA.
More to come in the next post...

Future truck project idea... NOT! A Peterbuilt hot rod...
There was a JT in the Superchips booth. Not exactly sure why. Which reminds me - the AEV booth was particularly boring. Very small, nothing new that's exciting, no concept trucks.
Chrysler had a big display. The "Lower 40" JK concept was there, sorry for the blurry photo, I'll have to get a better one tomorrow.
The Jeep guys stole my idea on the tailgate for the Lower 40 and used a CJ embossing just like I did on the Retro. Hey, photos of the Retro tailgate were published before the Lower 40 was first shown, therefore I can claim it's my idea, right?
I have no particular comment on the next photo, other than to say it amazes me how many grown men will wait an hour on a line for an autographed poster of a "booth babe". Similarly, I don't understand people waiting on line for autographs of all the other "celebs" that were there, like Chip Foose, Courtney Hansen, the guys from the "Truck U" tv show, etc.
Maybe more photos tomorrow. As they say on the poscards - "wish you were here..."

FJ 45 = super traildragger

Must be a longbed ... What an overhang.
So much overhang it wouldn't drive / handle with any load.

Managed to find some internet in Williams, Az. this morning. Driving up to the Grand Canyon shortly.
I liked these new plastic "tube flares" from Bushwacker. Only available for JK's and TJ's. Top photo shows as they come, bottom photos are the Bushwacker show JK, they've painted them. They're a little pricey, MSRP a little over $700 a set, seems like you'd fab metal ones before spending that much on plastic...
Another of the many roof-top tent JK's on display:
How about an F550 Expedition Camper?
The off road demo driving was a bit scary - these vehicles were screaming around the parking lot, jumping, doing donuts, racing around, with nothing but a light portable fence between the 2-tons of flying vehicle and the spectators. Nothing happened, but seemed like a high disaster potential.

That ARB Jeep may just be one of the ugliest Jeeps I have ever seen. I can't find anything I like about it other than the tent on top...

In the second picture with the white JK and tent, it looks like next to that is a trailer tent setup with some sort of platform. That might be kind of cool for us folks that want to be closer to the ground.

thanks Jeff! I keep hoping I can make it to SEMA someday but haven't managed to yet.... I've been toying with a top tent like those for the rear cage on the scrambler but I'm to cheap to actually spend the money. I don't suppose the expedition JK was there, sort of like the Turtle rig shown. It was in Moab but never opened up that I saw.
Did you drive the retro out? have booth space?

Guys,
If your interested in RTTs, you should get the back issue of Overland Journal that tests and reviews them. I know a few guys with Hannibals and they like them.
