Hello all. Nice forum, I wish I would have found it sooner!

I'm looking for a nice CJ-8. Original would be preferred, but I would consider a rust free restored example. No rust ever is a priority for me. I chased the rust monster in my last CJ 20 years ago, and still remember the ordeal well. A 4 inch lift or less is OK. It has to be an auto with the 258. Air would be nice. It has to have the half hardtop and doors. I'll consider every color except brown and black. I live in New Mexico so a lighter color is preferred.

I have an 08 Yamaha 700 Grizzly with power steering and fuel injection, along with add ons and a Polar trailer that I would work in a trade if someone is interested. I'm looking to spend around 10-12k for the right CJ-8.

Thanks you for your time and help.

This one appears to be close to your detailed specifications. However, it looks like the interior is black, and this specification might be a more negative aspect for your requirements, than would a dark colored body paint, in your hot and sunny climate. It also has a little rust.

Your specifications are very precise, so it may take you some time to find a light colored, rust free CJ8 with a 258 and auto tranny for $10-12K. If you had to give up one of your requirements, which one would it be?

I would say AC, then the auto.

I'm sure this won't be an easy find, but I'm patient

I wasn't even considering the A/C as one of your priorities. You do have very specific tastes. At least you'll have a lot greater success with your compromise on the transmission.

If you had the option of a brown or black body paint and nutmeg or white interior, would you choose those options over a light-colored body with black interior?

I might. I guess it would depend on condition. I'd probably go with the black white combo.

My personal choice would be the blue one with the T-5, A/C, and the full hardtop. It is also fuel injected. A nice package.

The reason that I presented you with the question, is that it is often very common for vehicles to have contrasting color schemes; Many will have light exteriors and dark interiors, or vice-versa. I don't reside much further north than you, and with our sun exposure, I always look for light-colored interiors with convertible vehicles. Even my non-convertible pickup has light-tan seating.

I made a mistake when I bought a convertible pickup years ago, because it had black seats. I dread dark interiors in a convertible vehicle. It probably wouldn't be so bad in many parts of the country, or if you like to keep the top installed. I don't use my Jeeps much without the tops off and the windshields strapped to the hoods, and the sun exposure in the western states is very intense. Even nutmeg interiors still get pretty hot, but I don't think there was a standard option for a lighter color in Jeeps. The saving grace is that interior seats can always be covered with a lighter material (sellers with black interior can rejoice!).

Why does the exterior color of the body weigh so much on your decision? The only time I have an issue with my dark green pickup truck is when I lean against it. I don't have much experience with my Chesnut CJ8, as it mostly sits in a dark cave that protects it from the world.

I'm not a fan of brown. I like black, just not in the desert.

I really like the light blue color that PavmentPounder posted.

Its more the physical configuration of that vehicle that makes the decision for me.

I called on the blue one yesterday. Someone had called a couple hours earlier.

You snooze you lose.
