Thanks, guys! My last one in the 40's.

Had a great day...lazed around, watched some football, opened presents- some cash, dvd's, a laptop stand, and a "Joy of Jeep" book. Worked a bit on my new "top secret" project, then went into Bend and walked a bit with my wife, and we met the kids for a great dinner at "Mc Minnemans", a local brew pub/restaurant.

Only thing that could have made it better was if my Scrambler was running.

Don't get too excited, Eric... someone traded in a 1991 Isuzu Trooper at work. It had some nice 31's on it. I bought the 31's and they threw in the Trooper. $150.00 for the whole thing. Driving it home I was impressed by how well it drove and realized I had a "winter driver" on my hands. So I've been fixing up all the little thrashed things on it. So far I've replaced the radiator, clutch master, hood, lock cylinders, ignition switch, console, dome lights, window cranks, glove box, stereo, and visors. (All for $100.00 at my local U-Pull-It, they took in a clean one on "cash for clunkers" and I stripped it!) I still have to remove the nasty carpet, get some cheap carpet from Lowes up front and probably throw a cut up bed mat in the back. It has the 2.8 V6 and a 5 speed, 4.56 gears and 4 wheel discs.

This will allow me to take my time finishing the Scrambler. I didn't want to rush and cut corners at this stage, but with winter coming I knew I'd have to get something driveable other than my 53 Ford. And, I really didn't want to shake down the rebuilt Scrambler in the winter on icy roads, so this buys me until spring.

Plus, driving a "beater" 4X4 is a hoot...no worries about body damage...I plan on getting my money's worth of fun out of it.

Wow, great deal! Aren't those things known for running forever? At the least you have 31s and a good CJ rear axle, right?

Robert Sloan on here has a Trooper that he loves and has like 500k miles or some silly amount like that on it.

Congrats on the addition to the stable.

Mine has 317,000. It's a '93 we bought new. Bad news tho - the alternater has died, the tranny is groaning in reverse. Not sure if I'm going to fix it this time. It's been sitting for a month. Repairs exceed the value of the vehicle.

But one that runs for $150 sounds like a decent birthday present (I'd sell you some parts if you weren't across the country )

Thanks for all the good wishes, guys!

I've seen Troopers with gazillions of miles...they are pretty stout. My son had a '90 he rolled, it held up OK...wish I'd kept some more parts! The Japanese seemed to really overbuild the first generation Troopers and Mitsu Monteros... major overkill on axles and frame strength.

I forgot to mention...the Trooper was "Top Secret" until it was presentable enough to show my wife. She actually said "Not too bad"!

I'll post a pic up this weekend. Hopefully the weather will hold so I can pull the Scrambler outside and remove the cage for final welding and painting.
