MOPAR EFI kit deal?

Jegs is selling the mopar EFI kits for under $1400. Their web site has the kits listed with no suffix in the part number I think it is 312 P 524610 for the manual and 312 P 524686 for the auto trans. Here is the weird part, they sell the same pn kits with the suffix AD for $2400 plus. I called MOPAR tech to find out the difference and was told that the no suffix kits weren't available and the current kit is suffix AE (they revise the sufix with each iteration of the kit). Called Jegs back and they cnfirmed the price of 1370, took my order and quoted me 1385 with shipping. as he took my order I heard him say th efull pn with suffix AD.

SOOO what will I get? according the guys on Jeeps unlimited where I heard of this the other night they are in fact getting the complete kits and are being charged the 1370 price.

Who has done this swap and should I start finding a 4.0 head to go with it or just wait and see how I like the efi and then decide? I see that Hesco has a 4.0 head swap kit supposedly complete with the head work all done already for 1150, or just about what I think I saved on the efi Kit.

The loop hole...

Sounds like someone found a financial loop hole... Kinda makes you wonder what this kit costs to make versus what the markup is??

If thats the whole entire kit, thats a great deal:thumbsup: I bought the kit from a guy off this site for $1850 NIB. I was at the local Jeep dealer yesterday and he said he could get me the kit for $2100, MSRP is $2700 I think:shrug:

Dont forget, you still have to buy a new Harmonic Balancer that has the crank sensor in it, about $200

Sounds like a closeout deal on the last rev kit to me. Great price!

I did the Mopar EFI on my '81. Love everything about it. I too went with the Hesco head. It is all a very straight forward item by item installation. When/if you put the 4.0 head on it you may have to install larger head bolts, 1/2" I think. Or, I have spoken to some who just sleeve the smaller bolts in the new head....

Summit sells the sleeves too.

Somewhere I have the part number for the 7/16" to 1/2" sleeve.

DeltaSS, did you do the head and efi all at once as one change or did you do it incrementally? Any issue with vapor locking? Run premium gas?

thanks

Eric
You could be right, especially if Jegs is going through a middle man somewhere, what they told me was they would have to order from Mopar and Mopar told me they only have and only ship the latest revision, when/if it shows up and at that price I'll let everyone know what I ended up with.

I did the Mopar kit, and have been running it for about 7 years. I don't run premium in mine and have never had a problem.
I did the 4.0 head swap at the time, and have been very happy with it. I would reccomend doing it while your at it. I had to JB weld a couple waterjacket holes in the head, but it was a piece of cake and has held up so far. If you are going to have the head decked, you might check if you have the same issue and have it welded up and then decked if its necessary. I believe I made my own sleeves to account for the different hole size. Make sure to use new head bolts though. The first time I didn't, and one went "Pop" about 3 years ago and prompted me to replace them all.

thanks yodabob, that's what i was after, first hand testimonial. Do you track mileage on your jeep or does it ride to the trails?

Thanks, I may be sitting on it for a while, discovered I need a new roof, from the rafters up in a few (15% or so) spots which I now need to find money for..... Not cancelling the efi order though, should be to Jegs from Mopar on Tuesday and to me on Friday. Be interesting to finally see what I bought

I don't track mileage too closely, but I have an idea where I'm at. It's mostly street driven and the gas gage doesn't work so I try to fill up at 100 mile increments.
Originally I had the setup in a stock cj7, and I jumped to about 20mpg after the conversion. Then I moved it over to the scrambler about 7 years ago, which had 33" tires and 4.10 gears. With pitbull rocker bias plys, I was getting about 14mpg. I just swapped on some Wrangler Duratrac's and it looks like I gained about 2 mpg, though I haven't put enough miles on it know for sure. And since I lost an axle at Silver lake Dunes last weekend, it may be a while before I can get it running and confirm that.
I did a full on rebuild when I made the swap. It's bored out .030" over and has the 4.0L head as I noted. I also put in a Clifford header, and run a T5 tranny. The one thing I did do after the swap, was add in a return spring at the throttle to provide more resistance to the gas pedal. If you got bouncing any, it was hard to keep your foot stable and you would start hopping since it had instant throttle response. It runs very strong and has lots of torque.
Hope that helps!

I tried searching on Jegs site for the manual version part number(312 P 524686) and could not find it.

I ordered this on the 12th but so far it still has not shipped. My order still says back ordered. On summit they are saying the fi ships around the 17th of sep :(. So who knows guess there is a shortage of them.

I've noticed that jegs now doesn't have the kit with "AE" on the web site. Or I just can't find it Anymore. I was told yesterday that mine should ship around the 1st of sep. So still waiting ;(.

still nothing new on mine, it was supposed to be at jegs Tuesday and to me by yesterday (Friday) but yesterday they knew nothing

Still backordered. But as long as we get them ;) kinda frustrating though. Hope to get that magical email tomorrow.

Called Jegs today and was told that they arrive on 9/2 and should ship the same day.

Lol god I hope so!!!

I'm taking a week off to put mine in. But with all these freaking hurricanes and tropical storms. Not sure when I can squeeze in between them. I love living on the barrier islands of fl but man I hate it too

FYI talked to jegs and they say now the eta is 9 sep for the mpfi. It's on back order from mopar.

I did get everything else in the mail today (so I can replace my old fuel tank now).

Bought the extras from hesco for the mpfi. And two thumbs up for their help SUPER FAST SHIPPING. and lots of good advice!!!!

84Jeepjohn, what do you mean the extras for the mpfi?
Does this Jeg's kit not contain everything needed? i.e. intake, etc. Does anyone know?

I also confirmed the "new" date of delivery to Jegs as September 9th.
