I swear I saw a thread about this a year ago or so but can't seem to find it. Does anyone know of a source to get factory code paint for a restoration?

Sorry - I have that. What I meant when I posted this was the cross-reference to new paint codes for a match. Either way I am good now it seems as my painter who's done all my Jeeps, cars, and bikes says he can get it. Cinnamon Metallic for my CJ7 Renegade.

I just assumed they'd know from that. Guess I'll have to figure something out for my paint job soon, too :)

I just know from experience with my past paint jobs as well as others that just because a supplier states it's an exact match the actual spray-out is off. For some reason I thought I saw a thread here a couple years ago that listed which suppliers were spot-on versus others being way off. maybe it was a different site.

No worries - my guy will do multiple tests to get it right. Was just going to try and save him some headaches.

Maybe you are thinking of this:

Why does BASF Limco use so many more toners? We are not sure. However, we strongly suspect that BASF was the manufactuer of AMC 2H in 1982. BASF was the supplier of other Jeep paints in 1982, but we have been unable to verify that they supplied 2H. If they were the manufactuer then perhaps the formula above is based on the orginal formula, whereas the other manufacturers tried to match the paint using as few toners as possible.

WOW! That's the first time I've seen that but proves my point that not all companies are the same. My painter has seen my Renegade and is confident I have enough near perfect spots he can trial and error until he gets it right; especially the interior. Hard top was hardly ever off and if so, only on weekends.

Note my pic below. I know the full history of this Jeep. Everything is original paint except the hood. It was repainted at a local Jeep dealership in the late 90s. Original hood but, and you can't make this up, a family of squirrels drug a salt lick up on it to chew on and left it there for a week. My neighbor was out of town while this took place. Salt ate through the paint. The local Jeep dealership said they could match it no problem. Neighbor said it seemed to match at the time but over the years it's gotten much worse. Multiple reasons this could be the case but ultimately shows I can't just have the Jeep touched up. Going to do body-off re-spray.

Looks like they also jacked the decals up?

when this took place it was my neighbor's Freshman year of college right before Summer. He was so ready to get it back for a beach trip he told the dealership to put the decals in the Jeep and he and his dad would put them on later (dealership wanted to keep it a few more days to let the paint cure before adding decals). According to my neighbor, to get the one Renegade side on took hours and lots of cussing amongst he and his dad. They then messed up the center portion so badly they just took it off. The driver's side Renegade decal never even made it on.

This is something I'd surely wind up doing - so I'm happy to leave it to the restoration guy.
