Hello,

My name is Barry Gray. I've had my Scrambler since 1987, except for about nine months. It was rode hard and put away wet. I really enjoyed it over the years. In 2009 nine I let a friend of mine talk me out of it. He owns a body shop and "restored it". I thought it looked so good I bought it back from him when he was finished with it. It looked great for several months and then the paint started bubbling up where he "repaired the rust spots". I was bummed and started to fix the areas but they never stopped, it just got worse. Finally one day I just started taking it apart, and I mean all apart, down to the bare frame.

In 2010 the first thing I did was fix the rusted out body bushing mounts on the frame. Then I took it down to the bare metal. Next I painted it with Eastwood's black Rust Encapsulator paint. Then I painted it with epoxy primer and then chassis black paint.DSC01555.JPGDSC01561.JPGDSC01563.JPGDSC01583.JPGDSC01584.JPGDSC01585.JPGDSC01586.JPGDSC01610.JPG

Next I rebuilt the transmission. Since the day I got the Scrambler you had to have the magic touch to get in reverse.

While cleaning out the little well where the fork on the shifter fits down into I found two little pieces of plastic? I cleaned them and fit it together where it was broke and then looked it up on an exploded view of all the parts in the tranny. Sure enough, there it was. I ordered the part and when I got the tranny all back together I put the plastic part between the fork and installed the shifter. It shifted right into reverse just like that! I couldn't believe it! All those years and all I needed was a little plastic part to fix it. WOW!

I had to replace one of the shafts with gears on it. It had a chipped tooth. It's been so long I can't remember which shaft it was.

One of the bolts was broken of in the flywheel. The head of the bolt had hit the bell housing and cracked it. I took the bell housing and had it repaired.
