I had a 4.8 Silverado - did everything that I needed it to do. Towed more than most, less than some. Longest trip was an 8,000 mile cross country/loop. Made it over the rockies and back in the middle of summer. I wouldn't hesitate to swap one if it was in good condition

I towed a boat/trailer combo that was just under 3500 lbs with mine. To from a ramp a couple miles away on back roads was all I was comfortable with because it did want to push the jeep around. It did do fine on the launch and retrieval though.

Isn't there a charge applied to the piece being coated and baking at temperature to cure? I am certainly no expert but I would be worried that the clear coat would insulate the part and then do something to the finish when heated up.

I read through some of this but admittedly not all- are you sure the ASD relay is good? Looks like you tested for switched voltage and have a proper ground installed. Installing a jumper and to make it run indicates that you have a good power source. If the signal is good I'd be looking to...

I'm in Connecticut and did this swap awhile ago and then switched the transmission to a 5speed. You're welcome to take a look at it. There are some items I'd do differently if I were to do it again and/or may change at some point in the future

Agree with the above here. The gears are likely still good. The hard work was done ages ago all you need to do is keep the set the same pinion depth and set the backlash the same and your pattern should basically be identical. Take pictures + measurements before disassembly.

Structurally I think you're fine for quite some time if that is the only issue you're facing. There are plenty of jeeps around with alot worse rust / missing chunks than that.

I had better luck grinding the nut off the bottom on the ones that I couldn't get out. The nut is welded onto the bracket, if you go that route you'd have to decide whether or not to weld them back on.

Filing this away - I did an external pump for 58/60 psi. It lasted around 8 years, maybe more with very few miles. Next time it fails this is the way I'm going. Looks like the easiest setup ever to keep it in the tank.

If I had to do it over again I would have just put an EFI on my 360. I went the 5.3L swap route and the power is great, but it was a lot of time/expense to do it. I could have easily rebuilt the 360 and put an EFI on it for what I have in engine, trans, adapters, drive shafts, wiring, exhaust...

I used some AN fittings and hose rated for power steering to make a set of pressure and return hoses. I purchased everything from summit racing.

If you call them up and talk with them they'll likely give you a discount if you ask. When I purchased mine I called, and if I remember correctly they gave me 10% off.
