Oh
I put a plate in front of the fuel tank on the cross member (had it set up on cj7 with the terminator fuel injection). I have it set up for a carb on this setup. Yours would have the filter to the right of where I have the filter and int fuel pump would be where the filter is now sitting (tank-filter-pump-run to carb). Close enough for gravity to get fuel to pump. Pump pushes fuel to carb.20181127_174738_resized.jpg

I have it set us with return line and all in case I install the terminator setup on the cj8. It would be best if you ran a relay for the pump and get a oil pressure switch to control the pump (schematic for wiring is on treads on this site). This way if the engine dies, the fuel pump shuts off so you don't keep pumping fuel.

Any metal filter that has the same in/out size as your fuel line. If you have the filter in the engine compartment replace it with another filter. You want a filter before the pump to keep the crap out of the pump. It's also good insurance to have one before the carb incase something is missed. It'll help keep the carb clean.

Yuck!!!! Very rusty dark gas and tank!
What y’all think? Restore or get a new tank? Metal or plastic?

I like a clear plastic filter in the engine compartment because it lets you see what your engine is drinking. Definitely go with a plastic tank.

Hey guys.. there seems to be a difference in the cj7 and cj8 gas tanks?
There is in the filler necks and filler tubes but the tanks are the same. There are aftermarket tanks that are not indentical to stock tanks.

Scrambln Man.. can you suggest a place to price that 20 gallon?
I have seen them listed from $50 to $200, the skid plates are different than the 15 gallon ones so keep that in mind when shopping for a used one. Aftermarket skids are available but is going to add considerably to the overall price. The skid would be more than the tank of the skid if bought new. Even if you find a used skid, if it has to be shipped, it will not be super cheap to ship due to the size.

I have 20 gallon tanks... but JerseyJeeps might as well, and he is probably closer to you.

1,600 miles vs 1,900 miles. Not sure it matters very much when you get over 500. Still would require a ride in a brown or white truck. (Even though bryrambler's location is shown as NJ, he is actually in Texas I think)

I've seen them come up locally from time to time, but not very often.

There is a guy south of Austin selling jeep parts on craigslist. I did not see him list gas tanks, but he might have one.

Or you could try the shop everyone loves to hate in Wylie.

Or try Phil Collum, AutoQuest Jeeps (North Side of Houston). I doubt he has any as his stock appears to be shifting towards newer models.

I read the OP state as NJ... so I figured Jersey was closer than NH.
My bad.

Not a "my bad" moment in my book. When looking for things, its helpful to tell your location. I thought he was in Jersey also. I also know somebody who has an extra one also, but close to NJ not Texas.
