66 CJ6 Tux Park

Just bought what's left to a 66 Tux Park from Arizona. Having it shipped out and should be here sometime in the next few weeks. Basically all the sheet metal with badging, title and data plate. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Cool. Pictures? If its doesn't have much rust, great move shipping it in. Mine was very rust. I wish I had gotten around to my CJ6, sold it instead. Still have a full hardtop for one that I gotta try sell ones of these day.

Is it the yellow one the AZ guy has up in colorado? If it is I didn't see a top.

Yes Don, it was the one in Colorado, the yellow one. He did not have a top, but I have a complete hardtop for one. It's coming with three fenders, two windshield frames, two hoods, original grill and a m38a1 grill with lights, tailgate. Badging on yellow hood, chrome front bumper, chrome hood and windshield hinges. Data plate and Arizona title. I'm happy with it and all the hat channels are in place and solid. That's a big deal for a Massachusetts guy. ?

I'm going to try and transfer pictures from my text with him, but not sure I have enough savvy.

Best I can do for now is a FB link. Sorry. I'll work on honing my picture stealing skills tonight.

I saw it the other day on the FB page, I didn't need a project. Glade you got it. It is only 50 or so miles from me.

Hope you dont mind i will be your tech guru If it wasnt for the badge i would of just thought it was a normal CJ6 (in good condiiton)

Plans? Restore or build?

Don originally was just looking for a plain rust free tub for my cj6. What I have right now I have a mandrel bent frame similar to a TDK frame. It was designed for a 101 WB. I have a set of built J truck axles under the frame right now but may be going back to narrow tracks. I have a set of 44 narrow tracks as well.
I have a built 307 sbc sitting on the stand with some performance parts. I know they are not popular, but built right at around 250/275 they perform well while giving pretty good economy. FI in one for or another is the plan for it.
I also have Rossller turbo 350 brand new with a Dana 20 behind that. Exhaust is done with with ceramic shorty headers into a two into one exhaust. Minus radiator, drive line is set. All I really needed was sheet metal and electrical. I plan on doing my wiring completely on my own. Believe it or not, I enjoy doing new harnesses.

So when building this one originally I wasn't concerned about restoration, but more a capable cj6 that still retains it's stock look. I kind of like a stock looking rig that can crawl and perform. But I will try to keep all or as much Tux as I can. I think it's neat that I found a Tux. My other six is a Perkins, so I have two oddballs now.

Looks like you got a solid enough start to make a nice rig. I am looking forward to seeing this one come together.

AJ, you ain't kidding. Been looking for years. I hate to say it, but looking around here is just nuts. No matter how many you look at around here, it either ends in months of metal work or wasted gas and hours driving.

Looks like it was pulled out of Boston Harbor. ? But that's our local Jeep's right there in a nut shell or should I say rust shell.

Looks to be the same as you'll find in MI. I don't even bother looking at anything from the rust belt.

I've pretty much given up looking at any Jeeps of any year up here. After years of traveling all over the northeast to look at "rust free" Jeeps, I got tired of showing up only to find them infected with tin worm for really outrageous money because "they are good by New England standards." My favorite example was a Scrambler listed as "rust free" with only surface rust. Walking down the driveway I could see the body rust through the fenders and rockers, instant disappointment. I'm a gluton for punishment so I decided to look further. Crawled underneath for 5 seconds and put my hand through the holes in the frame, where they always rust. Guy said he never had a reason to look at the frame and had "no idea" of any frame rust. Wanted over $8K for it. Wasted two hours there and two hours back and vowed never to do it again. I don't know how Craig , and other people up here, even strike a reasonable deal on them for parts anymore. Old and rusty does not always equal rare and valuable. Anyway...purpose of this rant, besides allowing me to vent my rusty frustrations, is to say you did great in buying this one and I'm a bit jealous! I'm really starting to love these 60s CJ's even though I'm biased to the 81-86's.

And....I need a serious education on what exactly were the differences associated with the Tuxedo Park edition versus a regular CJ6.
