Did you go 4.8 because it’ll wrap higher? Or because once you turbo it; it’s so crazy powerful it doesn’t matter?
Coolant temp sensor: Do you mean that the range for the Howell and Speedhut senders are identical (not just the plug/shape/threads)? My only worry when you start splicing into these kinds of wires is that fractions of an ohm can mean a different reading.
Somewhat similar on the fuel sender: they always seem temperamental, especially related to grounds. From what you're saying, can't you just use the Painless sender wire and at least pick up the ground where the Painless sender ground hits the chassis? Do you have to drop the tank to get to the Painless sender ground? I don't see any problem reusing the signal wire. You can certainly try to just ground the fuel guage somewhere near the dash and see if it works though Worst case, you run back to the Painless ground, right?
Where did you install your new coolant temp sensor if you don't mind me asking?
Last questions for those that have done this: What have you used to "cap-off" the speedo-gear housing on the transfer case? I have the stock Dana 300
Bingo, I got all excited about that with the 97 XJ drivetrain and ECU and found out the same thing.Blast from the past-
Has anyone used the can bus hookup for their Speedhut gauges? I’m curious as to how well it works, and how many sensors does it take the place of? Temp, oil pressure, tach, anything else? The instructions were rather vague…I have wires run for all the sensors, but if the can bus takes care of it, that seems more trouble-free.
Edit:
My google-fu seems to have returned. Looks like my system is J1850 not J1979. So they won’t work on GenIII LS swaps. However after 2006 you’re golden.
I was going to just delete this, but figured someone else might find the info useful.
I know this is old but for future searches ….Thanks. Turns out I was able to replace the stock temp sensor with the one speed hut provided and it appears to work.

This made me remember the first time I did this, I pulled the stock "cap", removed the gear, cleaned the cap, packed it full of JB Weld and reinstalled. That AA kit looks super clean though, I didn't know it existed.I know this is old but for future searches ….
I bought and used the Advance Adapters D300 Speedometer hole plug kit. Works like a champ for less than $20. Part number ADD-300621
