Wow that is quite a write up and looking at that i think the old CJ axle ends would work and the axle could be cut down to suit the CJ drive shafts keeping it all stock width and stock parts as well. I would of seriously considered this a few months ago as XJ axles can be pickd up fairly easily...

It did cross my mind to use a Cherokee axle and just cut off all the brackets and weld on some perches but i never really thought about using CJ knuckles though. Do the Cherokee D30s and the CJ D30s use the same size tube then?

    1981 wiring question

Oh dear that does sound like a fire waiting to happen, luckily you found it. For sizing fusible links i have no idea how the automobile manufacturers do it but i would work out how much load is on the link and then add a good healthy chunk of amps on top as it should be a last resort thing and...

    1981 wiring question

You are correct it is off a fusible link i have highlighted it in yellow. and looking at the drawing it must be on or adjacent to the starter solenoid. So it sounds like you already knew the answers and just wanted some confirmation. 8-)

Thanks CB, Other than the irrational panic buying, toilet roll hoarding and the inability of a large chunk of the general public to take any sort of notice of whats actually happening around them and just carrying on as normal then all is indeed well over here!. An enforced holiday at home may...

Used the original transmission mount rubbers, even though i could of done it in solid steel as the Advance Adaptors mount has rubbers built in but i needed a spacer and the original mount handily measured just about right for the spacing i needed. Its not centralised on the mount and hangs a...

    turn signals don't work

    Starter switch? Issue

I extended all the cables on my Howells harness and strapped it to the side of my seat base to make life easier on installing and also so i can get to it should the need arise.

    Drive train issues in 4x4

Sounds like simple driveline windup to me which is perfectly normal. In 4WD the front and rear axles are trying to go very different speeds when you are turning and if its got the grip then the forces have to go somewhere so it feels like you have binding brakes or the tyres start jumping and...

If i clocked it lower (which is where AA designed it to go) then as the yoke arcs downwards it sits more in to the pan than ever! I would need to fabricate a whole new side on the pan and then trim the filter in the transmission down its that close. I have Randy but my location means...

Next job is make a mount for the transmission, grind that lip on the pan and then see if the body tub still fits and clears this little lot!. Can maybe get the engine mounts welded up and move on a little then, hopefully next update will be a bit sooner as well, work has been keeping me busy...

So even after all this the drive shaft will still catch the lip on pan should the axle go near its bump stop, so that needs to get ground flat and the clearance between the pan and the shaft is still minimal but it does clear.

The other thing is to completely disregard MOREs instructions that state there is only one place to mount the engine and thats where they have designed it to go!... I have packed up the driver side mount by nearly 2 " to tilt the engine over to give me the clearance i need. Hopefully it will not...
