82 UK Spec Laredo Scrambler Build No 2

I bet that extra bend is there to allow for brake cylinder replacement. It would be rather difficult without a little flex in the line.

    SJScrambler - Getting Started

I’m sure the artwork gets smiles across the country, hopefully it even improves the handling of the box. But that might just be wishful thinking.

    SJScrambler - Getting Started

Did it happen to have the factory fog light switch? If so, I’ve been looking for one. BTW, my wife loved the artwork. ;)

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

Being that the Godzilla is available as a crate engine, I’ll bet they get a version that is CARB approved, much like some of the LS performance engines from GM. Regarding power, it is in line with many of the LS engines and Hemi’s. Sub 500 hp and tq does not sound crazy in a scrambler. I think...

    86 CJ7 - 4Cylinder - T5 Transmission Problems

Might be able to find a YJ in the rust belt for around a grand, but in Texas you won’t touch a running Jeep for less than 3 grand (excepting a rare deal). In Texas the drivetrain wears out before the frame and body rust out. Unless it was a beach buggy.

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

Fuel leak fixed. Opened the surge tank, tightened the terminal, closed it up. Took about 5 minutes. Much easier than dropping a tank.

    A999 Trans problem

I have the ATSG book, but this one appears to be more detailed. Just placed an order for one. Thanks for the tip.

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

To do list for completing the install: Replace the harness connectors to the ignition module. Fix the seeping fuel pump power feed. Reinstall ignition module and coolant overflow. Check vacuum hoses and determine why I am at 1,700 rpm idle with a 0% iac setting. (Have a feeling I am getting...

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

I will say it is amazing how good it runs. Neither of my Jeeps have ever run that smooth and with this much throttle response. It is impressively responsive. Now I need to fix the transmission. I have a feeling it needs a complete rebuild, but before I do that I plan to diagnose it with this...

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

Replaced the mechanical fuel pump. Primed the fuel system and ... But, now I have a seeping fitting on the surge tank. The power feed pass thru is seeping fuel. Gotta pull the top off the surge tank to see what the issue is. I fear I tightened it too much and cracked the seal.

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

No flow, don’t remember if it held vacuum. The line from the pump to the surge tank is clear. I need to verify the return to the tank. Before I started the swap, the fuel pump worked and flowed a couple pints into a catch can when I pulled the line from the carb. Also, the engine was running...

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

No, vacuum did not register on the gauge when I pulled on the feed to the mechanical pump. I was able to pull a pint or two out of the tank using a catch can with a small vacuum pump.

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

That is exactly how my ‘02 Nautique is done. Has a low pressure pump to the “fuel control cell” where there is a filter and high pressure pump. In hindsight, I probably should have bought one of those for an all-in-one solution of pump/filter. Plus it is slightly smaller than the FI Tech one. I...

    Times They Are A Changin'

Don’t worry, the good ones will be in Mississippi (I hear). I could always store a spring special or jamboree edition for you too. :D:D:D I have heard of people putting a tattoo behind an ear for that purpose. Not saying I condone it, just have heard of that being done. We have friends with...

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

Good news / bad news. I jumpered the connector to the ignition module, and I am getting crank signal. So good that it is working, bad that the harness connectors are bad. I had to bend the spades that go into the harness connector to get a firm connection. Next issue is no fuel in the surge...

Also, very little resistance in sand, so less risk of breakage. Impact loads are what breaks parts most often.

I figured glass is the best place for now. I’ll probably move it to the top of the windshield as it is tilted back pretty good as it is.

Bringing An(other) Overlander Back Home II

Thanks! I found a set of reverse light a while back (fixtures and lenses). It would be nice to find a source. I never could find reflectors. Found similar ones, but they were all off by just a little too much.

Holley Sniper EFI for BBD Carbs

Now time for initial startup, (after dry starting to let the mechanical pump fill the surge tank) crank the engine and STALL! No coil signal. Time to diagnose. I have ground at the green coil wire, but when cranking the ground is not being interrupted while cranking. This means I have an...
