This is amazing! I'll paint it up, bolt it on and no one will ever notice. Until I point out your custom work

Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

It's pretty clean looking. Congrats on finding a painter that was available. It took me over a year to find someone for mine.

Thanks Randy. I talked to the painter, he's looking around. He had another jeep in there, and I'm wondering if the grills got switched? Who knows.

I could use some help on a couple of items: 1.) What type of pin or screw holds the tailgate seal down? I never had a seal previously, so I'm not sure what to look for. 2.) Does the left hand front clip rod mount separately? I don't ever remember removing it, but it came back from paint...

Chasing the wiring down isn't so much fun, but I've enjoyed adding the fun stuff- lights, wipers, heater housing.

Priorities- got the kids their place to sit in the back. They love them, and have spent the last two nights sleeping in the back with their sleeping bags. As a point of reference I started this project when my son was a newborn.

I decided to go with white face gauges. We'll see if the old and new mix well when it's all installed.

I thought I did a pretty good job labelling, bagging and storing hardware. But a few things have gotten lost in the move. So there's a whole lot of painting hardware, and hunting down screws, bolts, etc. What a pain!

    81 Anvil Scrambler Build

Well, she came home last Saturday, and that felt like an accomplishment. Now time for final assembly. It's first time I've seen it with the color matched full hardtop. I'm really happy with how the color came out, and mixing in the spice colored interior. The body flexed a lot just beneath...

Thanks- I checked them out and grabbed a few pics. Great work. I think I'll do something similar or cut everything at the B pillar and redo it forward. I need to find a way to keep it functional and hide the new welds or clamps required.

That's a good idea. I should look around for pictures of how other's have done that. I'd welcome any if you see someone who's pulled it of well. Does that typically tie-in with the windshield locking plate?

MikeV, I'd love to see pictures of your jump seats. Here, I thought I was pioneering a new idea :) Did you put them way in the back? Have they worked out ok?

    81 Anvil Scrambler Build

So, real time- here's where I'm at. I should get the Scrambler back any day from paint, and then its my turn again. Plumbing, wiring, running some new electrical for winch, lights, there's no stereo. I've got transmission cooler lines that need to be shortened, and 101 other things left to...

    81 Anvil Scrambler Build

Of course... something doesn't fit. We realized late in the game that I never fit the roll cage with the hard doors on. And the A-pillars of the cage fit too snug against the doors. Crap! We were supposed to have all of that stuff figured out before paint and powder coating. Oh well. We'll...

Off she goes to meet up with the tub and body again. It feels good to be turning the corner toward finally assembly.

Color! Anvil gray is pretty popular lately. I've considered so many different colors, including the new Jeep "sting gray." But in the end, I love how the anvil looks more blue in the sunlight. I'm really happy with it. We lined everything inside with a color match. I really debated about...

New shoes! It was definitely a series of compromises. But I settled on some General Grabbers, 35's on 18's The wheels are Fuel, and have a slight bronze color to them. This is another case where I wish I could go back in time and redo axles. Oh well, maybe later, like when these break :)

More body work and then finally primer, paint and undercoating. I asked my body and paint guy to add an access panel for the fuel tank and pump. I'm tired of the dropping the tank every time there's a problem. I've never had a working fuel gauge, so that'd be nice after all of this :)
