    going to start restoration

Dirty Bill- I'm excited to watch this. My Scrambler has been sitting in my garage for going on 3+ years and during Covid I FINALLY started picking at it. Most of the body work is complete and I'm doing my best to move on to paint, specifically shooting Raptor inside the cab (color matched like...

Barry- Here is a pic of that fender the DA sander was resting on. Now you know why I’m using it as a tool shelf. Someone shot some runny paint on it in its former life! (Not sure why pic isn’t oriented the right way)

Haha! You’d understand the DA sander on the fender if you saw the condition of the paint on that fender and everywhere else. The WHOLE Jeep is going to be repainted. :P Yes, I used guide coat(s) and more to come. If I had it to do over, I’d have used the entire Classic Enterprises panel. The...

The wind was howling yesterday, and the water oaks are shedding those little fuzzy pods, so I’d have to apply the filler in the garage, wait about 15 min, then pull it out in the driveway to sand. It was a tiresome, but man, what a workout, hunched over sanding like a madman for about 3-4...

Well, a month has gone by and yesterday I finally hit the passenger rocker with the filler and got it smoothed out. I’d gotten sidetracked the previous weekend with removing ethanol sludge from the Carter BBD (reinstalled the driver seat so I could drive it around a bit and couldn’t get gas to...

The bottom lip on the Classic Enterprises replacement piece wasn’t an exact match, but was close, so I had to manipulate the original lips a bit to get everything to fit properly. It’s pretty close, and will be hidden by the rocker trim moulding anyway. This part is done and in primer at the...

Once I have a pretty heavy series of tack welds, I grind them down with a flapper disc. That helps me see the remaining pinholes, and I go back over the panel and fill those. You’ll note that my panel “fit up” was too gappy toward the front. This will be hard to tack weld. The solution is to...

Tacking it in. This part takes more patience than I normally have. Go too fast and build up heat and I’ll have a big, warped mess. I quench each weld with a shot of compressed air to quickly cool it down.

Panel ready for welding. Panel clamps are very handy for keeping the workpiece in place.

Found some spare time to get that passenger side rocker panel on! Felt like a huge milestone after completely walking away from this thing a couple of years ago. Next step is approaching the minor body putty, seam sealer and then paint (now that the pollen is flying and the trees/bushes are...

Did a little more “picking” at the Scrambler today. Had to fabricate a replacement section and lip under the B pillar that was rusted out. Shoe boxes make great templates! 🤓 I wasn’t real impressed with the “flange” function on the Harbor Freight tool (but I really bought it to punch holes for...

    Barret-Jackson Scottsdale 2020 Jeeps, etc.

Brutal!! Yikes!! Well, I know if I ever sell my Scrambler, I'm going to try to list it at Barrett Jackson! I've seen this exact same thing happen in my own office. One of the owners (and friend of mine) took his wife to Mecum in Kissimmee. They bought not one Camaro, but TWO. A '68 hardtop...

    Need bulkhead weather strip

AJ- I like your seam sealer idea; don't really see a reason to remove that bulkhead once it's done. Here's another link that had some good ideas as well: https://www.cj-8.com/threads/bulkhead-to-body-gasket.21023/ I bought my 88 YJ new, and the seal on the hardtop is similar to the 3M tape...

    Need bulkhead weather strip

GoPedal- the irony of you posting this! I just got home from work and was in the garage looking at the bulkhead (as I finish the welding in the cab, I want to remove the bulkhead and make sure nothing is lurking there that needs repair), and wondered about that same weatherstrip. Will be...

My wife bought me a Jeep!

Lookin’ good! I remember a guy telling me about using filler rod for big gaps years ago. A great idea!
