Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

Bugs the crap out of me. But- I guess it all depends on how all the other bolts thread in. I’ve got a nifty solution for the hood bolts, and I’ve got 8 OEM bolts for the rest of the windshield frame. I’m going to get the windshield frame bolted up and then the doors and see how it all goes. If...

Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

I had thought about having the hinges re-sprayed after assembly- but I really don’t want to have it at the paint shop for a month or two. I guess I’m just trying to decide between going black or just living with it. The black paint on the screws is pretty much bulletproof. I guess I can get it...

Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

That sounds like it might work, but I'm a bit nervous about heat. It wouldn't take much to get it too soft and the twisting screw could pull a whole patch loose!

Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

That's what I did on these. Didn't seem to matter. The paint issue really isn't caused by the rotational friction, but by the deformation of the paint film due to the fastner pressure. On these upper hinge screws, I held the screw stationary and tightened the nut on the back. On the lower hinges...

Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

Help! Well, mostly either a shoulder to cry on, or some advice. I may have screwed myself in my quest for perfection. I worked on installing the hinge screws. First, a positive note. I love the look and durability of the Elite Cerakote. It did not chip at all with the torx bit, and even the one...

Willwood brake master cylinder pushrod eye size

In some of the better stocked hardware stores they sell nylon bushings. That would probably be the best solution.

Dang, you guys have me figured out better than my wife! Some good advice here. I guess I’d better get to work and get it finished so I can drive it!

    100 questions

The rivets holding it on are regular rivets, nothing special. Drill them out carefully and you should be able to clean up the tag enough to be legible.

Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

True. With that in mind, I still wasn’t 100% happy with the color of the indicator lights. One combo I never tried was the original blue filter with the new brighter LED’s. It’s about as close as it comes. Plus I got another Vintage Air knob so the headlamp switch would match the other controls...

Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

Red’s a keeper. Just a bit down right now realizing winter is almost here and no matter when I get Red finished I won’t be driving until spring.

I will, I will, and I will. Rock chips are about the only road hazard here, well, also deer and distracted drivers… but Oregon is pretty mellow. I will garage if in winter, that is for sure. The lure of actually making some good money, and buying a nice stock one is appealing. But I don’t...

KISS Daily driver (keep it simple stupid)

If you have the Iron duke, a small block Chevy is pretty much a bolt in with conversion motor Mounts.

    switch to EFI...

If you are fairly confident in your mechanical abilities and somewhat savvy in general automotive electrical and fuel systems, a DIY TBI setup should be fairly easy. If you need to follow a set of instructions, then getting the Sniper or similar kit might be the best idea.

    switch to EFI...

I’ve done several TBI swaps and they are about as simple as it gets. You can get an intake adapter or just get a TBI intake. You’ll need a higher pressure fuel pump, and then all the electronics- but it’s not that bad. Also have to weld in an oxygen sensor bung. A weekend job. I think I still...

Are the Scramblers getting to valuable to enjoy

I’m going to add to this. I probably won’t have an honest answer until I actually drive it. Who knows. I’ve gone back and forth on this- keep it and keep it nice, drive a bit and then see just how much I can get for it, or just drive it and call it good. The thought that keeps pestering me is-...

Are the Scramblers getting to valuable to enjoy

My last one was a daily driver. I sold it to build this one- it was supposed to be a daily driver, but then things got out of hand…now it’s going to be a weekend cruiser- garaged and driven to the brewery or car shows.
