    Transmission swap

I found some other Jeep forums that suggested the difference, and I measured the O.D. of my shot pilot bearing after removing it at 1.055, so just under 1 1/16”. I have already ordered a Timken pilot bearing PB79, which I believe to be correct. Using a clutch search by vehicle, there were for...

    Transmission swap

This is an old thread, but I did not find a more recent one. The SR4 in my AMC 258 Scrambler is one of the reasons the prior owner let it go. I pulled it out this weekend and found why. The pilot bushing was ovaled after someone put a center force clutch in and failed to align the bellhousing...

Welcome to the "Other" engine swap subforum! Nominate threads for this new forum

Keep me posted how the accessories fit with the radiator and the rest of the engine bay. I was planning to use the stock Explorer brackets and pulleys due to their short length, but this will most likely prevent me from running a supercharger, which is on my build list.

I have a 1998 Explorer 5.0 that will be going in. Are you using the 94/95 billets and brackets?

    Horn Button

I pulled the horn button off in the first step to diagnose the horn that has never worked on my Scrambler. I quickly realized that everything was functional without the horn button. I straightened out the slightly bent metal and cleaned everything up, but still have the same issue. This looks...

    Times They Are A Changin'

Unfortunately, mostly just some demo and removal of the prior owner’s handiwork on the Scrambler. I’m trying to make it through some house projects and finish my pickup truck. The little guy loves the Jeep, though.

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

From Ford Performance - the pilot bearing machining in the crank is identical to the Coyote motor.

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

I heard back from Ford Performance regarding the control pack. It will be out later this year, and I should be able to get info in a couple weeks. I inquired about the pilot bearing provision of the crankshaft, and I will post as soon as I hear back.

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

I’m waiting to hear back from Ford Performance. The bellhousing maker is on board for mating the two together.

Great Thread! Congrats to all the fathers out there! My son has been the inspiration to get back to work on my Scrambler.

I saw where they trimmed the pan for a swap. The intake height is more worrisome.

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

ZFs are typically larger than the transmissions with a separate bell housing. I already have the NV4500, but I will have to make sure that the parts will all get along. Concerning Smog, not all zip codes in California require an inspection, FYI. I’m still annoyed with the end of the, “rolling...

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

Thanks for the good info, and I appreciate the apology (I would rather avoid politics and California bashing on the auto forums). I am going to keep researching this. I will email Ford about the ECM and see what they say. My original plan was to use the Explorer motor and find a used...

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

I was going to install a free 1998 Explorer 5.0 Small block, and still might, but with the the P heads causing problems with header availability and the computer issues and fading interest in, “reflashing,” the original units, it might be more cost efficient to move on to newer technology. The...

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

I did’t realize this board was sponsored by Fox News, but if anyone has any exterior dimensional information on this motor, that would be great. The width seems possible, but I can’t find any information on the height.

    Ford 7.3 Godzilla swap?

I started looking into this, as parts are available to bolt to an NV4500, and this is a modular motor pattern. The ECM has not been officially released, but it will be soon. I can’t figure out how high the motor sits with the intake. Any info out there?
