Poured my 96x41 slab last week. Going back in 2 weeks to start the shell. Any big surprises so far? Pictures look awesome! My rollup door is 14x14 as well and I am reading what I can find on the installation. Will have a lot of questions when I get to that point...
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 hydroboost and master cylinder that I want to install. Right now the brake reservoir sticks above the hood profile and of course the bolts don't line up either. Anyone see an issue if I tilt the entire assembly downward to clear the hood? Obviously that may change...
I heated and fought the two that fell out and no luck. 20 years abandoned sitting 100' from the beach seems to weld a lot of stuff together.
Definitely 5/16" so I will make my own from steel stock. Thank you for the help!!
All but 2 of my body mount bolts sheared off when I removed the tub. Most were corroded down to an 1/8" of diameter. What are my options as it looks like I will have to cut the body in those sections to replace it, then weld it back up?
Could cut and tap my own plates or cut/drill plates and...
Really interested in how the factory end goes up. Mine has the factory end on one end and I will do stick framing on the other. Planning to pour concrete in Nov and likely hiring a crew to put up the arches in Dec.
With the CJ8 rollbar is a CJ8 hardtop so now I can't resist. Meeting him on Tuesday to look at both. Much better plan that fitting the CJ7 rollbar with a non-CJ8 hardtop...
Thank you all for the help and pictures! I way underestimated the differences so this is really really helpful. I don't have a cj8 hardtop but do have a hardtop from a different jeep, maybe a CJ7 that I plan to use. Any idea if a non-CJ8 rollbar would be better?
Pretty sure they are very different and you can't use a CJ7 on a CJ8 without a lot of cutting and welding to put in the additional sections required on the back legs which was my original plan but I found a CJ8 rollbar while on travel. Trying to figure out what my time is worth and I forgot to...
Thank you for the response. Looks like I will be mounting a fairly trashed set of 33s to begin with anyway. Just need the size to make sure everything else works including the test drive. Then, when I have it running good I can put on brand new tires to start the 10 year clock.
I have 4 factory wheels that are in terrible shape with rust and peeling paint. Figure I will sandblast and paint prior to mounting new(ish) tires on them. What is the best paint to prevent the new tires from adhering to the rims? Will epoxy be better than the rustoleum I plan to topcoat the...
Finding it hard to source pure copper auto wiring. Seems like everything is copper-clad-aluminum which seems terrible to me as it would probably break faster due to the aluminum content. Pretty sure I want to use stranded, pure copper wiring for all electrical wires on any auto/trailer...
We have cats that are over 10 years old so whenever I am away for more than a week I put rat poison in plastic cups inside each engine bay. They are terrible in my shop so I keep poison out. Their favorite spot is a drawer in my tablesaw which I keep a unbaited spring trap that catches at...
Love what you are doing with your jeep! Will be really interested to see your decisions going forward to keep it a 'daily driver'. I am restoring a 1983 with a similar mindset although mine will have a diesel engine. Great writeup on the frame preservation. I need to do the same after I...
Looks like I would have to cut the cross member and weld in one facing the other direction, while leaving enough meat to support the two body mounts that are on the inner side of the frame. May still be worth it to gain the 1" of ground clearance against the tank. Existing skid plate is eat up...
I try to talk folks into doing poured concrete decks. Just did one a few months ago at my own place. Had to bring in probably 10 tons of fill to bring up the furtherest part about 1.5' and did it over several months to reduce the chance of settling later. Then dug footings to virgin soil...
I have definitely been following the 2 FB groups and they have helped me plan. Will be doing baseplates as well which I hope to concrete into place during the pour using J-bolts. Would love to get your number so will PM you. Biggest concern is unloading the kit at the moment. Plan on using a...
I know I will be installing at least a 1" body lift when I finish the frame and tub repairs. Already ordered the ebay 20 gal poly tank but couldn't find a cheap skid. Already doing a ton of welding so I have a plasma and a flux core and stick welder. Can I just modify my current 15 gallon...
I saved a cooler from a truck I am parting out. Do jeeps benefit? Tried searching but didn't see any discussion on whether there it will help or just complicate the setup in general.
