    Cj-8 Hot Wheels and Matchbox

Man, is my wife great or what? I told her not to worry about buying me a gift as I had recently spent a considerable amount of money on hunting optics. But she apparently saw these at a grocery store while shopping for things to prepare a Father’s Day meal and bought them for me. I guess after...

Watching the sun rise behind El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridal Veil Falls from the tunnel is practically a spiritual experience.

Boomer's Better Late Than Never Build

So I have been getting after it a little here and there. I didn’t take pics, but I ended up using a die grinder to elongate all of the mounting holes in the skid plate to center it between the shackles. Fits great. Got the new rear two crossmembers welded in and test fit the skid plate and fuel...

Don't Use a Wagoneer Front Axle

Yeah, I have no problem running the Grand Wagoneer OEM 11“ x 2“ drum brakes on the FSJ AMC 20. That would also still be an upgrade over the 10” brakes in the Scrambler. The conundrum comes from trying to swap everything over to the 5 x 5.5“ wheel bolt pattern. For the front axle I’m just going...

Don't Use a Wagoneer Front Axle

Can drums or rotors with 6x5.5 pattern be redrilled to a 5x5.5 pattern? Looking at it, it doesn’t appear to be that there is enough space and that some of the holes will overlap. The reason I ask is that I’m already a good ways into a project like this. I have a FSJ WT axle already narrowed...

What do you for brakes on the redrilled/custom axle shafts?

    Hydraulic clutch slave

I wonder if part of that is attributable to the 258 likely having a bigger, heavier pressure plate with firmer rated fingers and a bigger, heavier clutch disc with firmer rated springs in it.

Don't Use a Wagoneer Front Axle

I had my axle shaft shortened and resplined at Dutchman axles in Portland, OR. They are pretty renown for their axle work. The timing of me happening to need to drive to Portland for a conference at the time worked out pretty well, too.

My weekly take. Same store (Fred Meyer, a Kroger subsidiary), 2 different trips. They are still trickling out.

Got a little more work done on the gas tank skip plate. Talked with TDK and they were surprised that my front fuel tank crossmember wasn’t flat. Said it was on their 1981 CJ-8. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I can’t find any posts anywhere about installing one of these Overland tanks in a stock frame, so I kind of feel...

    Dynamat

After seeing what moisture under the carpet did to mine, I would say no. And really, how quiet is a CJ ever going to be? On an unrelated note, what motor mounts are those?

What is your go-to solution for carrying extra fuel?

@6xp Any chance you could get under your TDK tank and take a few pics? Curious what your install looks like. Everything, but the forward fuel tank crossmember in particular Wouldn’t mind seeing how you added an access panel in the bed, either.

Boomer's Better Late Than Never Build

Next, the forward mounting flange of the skid plate hits the “horns” on the forward fuel tank crossmember where it joins to the frame. Also, the same flange looks like it blocks access to the body mount bolts that go thought that crossmember. So it looks like I am going to have to trim the...

I also started fitting up the TDK fuel tank skid plate. Damn, if I thought CHIEFWAHO’s crossmember was beefy, oof. This thing is a monster. The first order of business was to reverse all of the shackle bolts as the threaded ends protruded far too much towards the center of the Jeep. I couldn’t...

Fitting the TDK crossmember. The “teeth” that go on the inside of the frame rails come a bit too wide, so I used an angle grinder to cut them back a bit.

Initial test fit of CHIEFWAHO’s rear crossmember. This thing is beef. I need to get some longer bolts to see how both mounting tabs work with the bumper angle supports.

Here’s the clutch disk that came off the Iron Duke after turning 35s through 3.54 gears. I can faintly hear it screaming in pain.
