    Engine won’t start

Testing with everything disconnected I am getting 1.3 testing on both points, 0.1 testing only on one point. Testing my previous e coil I get around the same.

    Engine won’t start

When I turn the key to start position I get around 8 volts, in run position the engine simply stops so I don’t get any voltage. I have tried putting the original AMC ignition control module back in and it does the same thing. When I have the key in the accessory spot, without turning to start...

    Engine won’t start

Still no start. I have now replaced the ignition coil with the original factory style coil instead of the e-coil I had previously installed. I have replaced the old resistor wire with new and spliced it into the same wires previously connected. I have added a ground strap from the motor/body...

    Engine won’t start

Ok I ordered a new ignition coil to be safe and a new resistor wire. It looks like the resistor wire comes with pre done bullet connectors, do I crimp a ring connector on it to connect to the ignition coil, or simply strip it down to the wire.

    Engine won’t start

Red wire from Ignition module splits and feeds the ignition coil and the starter solenoid. It gets Very hot and after keeping ignition key on accessory mode begins to smoke. The wire jacket is very gummy and very hot to touch. I will plan to replace this wire, do you think this could be causing...

    Engine won’t start

Ok, I replaced the ignition module with a new one. A Duralast from AutoZone. Inspecting all of the wires coming from it they appear to be ok, they have splices in them, but appear to be solidly in place. I am still not getting the Jeep to stay on after I release the key from start. This is...

    Engine won’t start

I can turn the key and as long as I continue turning the key it sounds like it is on. As soon as I stop turning the key, it dies and will not remain on. I have sprayed starting fluid into the carb. In the past I have bypass the fuel tank and has the fuel line in a cup full of fuel and as I...

    Engine won’t start

My stock 4.2 will not start. It all started a couple years ago when I went over a small bump and it died. It had been doing it recently, but it always restarted right away. It will try to start but never fully turns over to run. I have checked the battery, which is good. I have checked for...

    Moving to Montana

My family and I are making the move from Southern California to Bozeman Montana. We are ready for a change! I will be flat towing my scrambler behind our motorhome and wondered if anyone had any input. I was planning on disconnecting the rear driveshaft and unlocking the front hubs, keeping...

    Lockers

If I can only afford to buy one locker at a time, which is most useful/important, the front or rear? Doing simple research it looks like having a locker engaged while driving in snow or on ice is dangerous, so a select-able unit seems necessary. Does this sound correct? The jeep does need to...

What did you do with your Scrambler today? September 2014 version

Today I finally mounted my Marchal lights. I still need to piece together a wiring harness and switch though. I also haven't posted my new bumper and winch. Someday I'll be able to afford to upgrade to an 8274, but until that day this one will have to do. I like the looks if this bumper with the...

    What is this?

Hey guys, I've got an easy one for you guys. I was checking out the location of a slow fuel leak I have when I noticed something odd underneath. One of the following photos is from the rear left corner of the Jeep, the other is the top left side of the gas tank. It looks to have been...

    Overheated

I took the Scrambler out for its first real drive today, and I'm now on the side of the road after it overheated. This was after a lot of freeway driving and while coming up one of the many big steep roads up to Ramona. It started making a bad sound while coming up to speed going up the...

    1981 emissions sticker

Hey guys, I'm trying to replace my emissions stickers under the hood, and under the left door frame, but it looks like they're year specific and possibly California specific too. I've found someone recreating stickers for 1983 models but cannot find one for 1981. Is there really any...

    My new 1981 CJ8 Scrambler

Hey guys! So I just got my first Scrambler and I'm very excited to start doing some work myself to maintain it. As far as the engine, it's the stock 258ci 4.2L I6 2BBL. It runs well for it's age, but I would feel more comfortable after performing some general maintenance. I plan to flush the...
