    Bringing An Overlander Back Home

Glad you were able to wrap that up as quickly as you did. Now that we know the costs and limited 3-year taint on bonded title makes a non-title Jeep much more appealing than they were in the past.

Slate Blue 1983 Base to SR Restoration

Right now, pleased. Usually, they are never as good as you hope/think but this one meets expectations after 2 days. Not sure I have any of the J10 in the phone but will try to take one tonight. It's ripe for restoration, too. All original Laredo (including shag carpet) except for the paint...

Slate Blue 1983 Base to SR Restoration

Received the slate blue Scrambler that we discussed in this post: https://www.cj-8.com/threads/1983-cj8-jeep-scrambler-8000-sera-mesa-ca.49651/ This southern Cali Scrambler looks very dry and straight which matched my expectations from the additional pictures that the seller provided. Appears...

    Jeep side steps

Quite positive that the long diamond pattern steps came on the 1981 models and were painted black. The smooth style with the grip tape started in 1982 and were painted black through 1983 or 1984 (not sure on this). Thereafter, they were painted body color.

    Bringing An Overlander Back Home

Definitely an interesting case study. Too bad we don't know more. Maybe they could not determine if the original emissions had been altered. Any potential alteration would have invalidated the original build to US standard and certainly would have been a red flag to the EPA / US DOT.

84 Australian Overlander frame off restomod

Beautiful paint! Putting it back together is the fun part although I know you still have a way to go with the driveline and suspension.

    Bringing An Overlander Back Home

Great question! In Texas, you can get a car titled but not registered for road use. For the title process, you do not need the safety inspection or the liability insurance. Only when you register it for use, do you need to show proof of those. See the 130-U form and the boxes along the top...

    Bringing An Overlander Back Home

Thanks Andrew! Latest update. Went for the title yesterday, and all worked out just fine. They never asked me once about not having a title! As suspected the clerk immediately took the paperwork to a supervisor and the process took maybe 45 minutes. The only blip that came up about the...

    Bringing An Overlander Back Home

At best, the officer glanced at my papers for 10 seconds and didn't keep them. No way it was long enough for him to memorize the VIN. The clerk never even asked for them. I definitely do not think they matched up anything to the papers. Just found the VIN and checked it. Agreed, you will...

    Bringing An Overlander Back Home

Dallas County Sheriff's Auto Theft unit inspected the Overlander today. All went well, and I was impressed how quick it went. I drove in at 9:15 for a 9:30 appointment. They had me headed out by 9:40. For ag4ever and others interested, the process went really smooth. They direct you where...

Tommy, that's awesome. Congrats to you and your wife.

Wow, I can't belive it happened.

The South American CJ's I've seen have been left hand drive. Plus, there's that language thing. Poster or brochure would be in Spanish (or Portuguese for Brazil). I'm guessing UK but then again immobilize might be spelled with a "s" rather than a "z". This is tough one.

Robert - Do your wheels look original paint? I notice that all of them do not have the black pinstripe. My wheels have been repainted and also do not have a stripe. However, my spare has the black pinstripe, but I have not checked the date. The tires shown on the Overlander brochure also do...

    1986 CJ8 in June 2019 JP Magazine

As I remember, this one's VIN indicated an export model. I have a hypothesis (more of a half-ass guess) that the rumored 120ish 1986 Scramblers were actually built and exported (or meant for export) to South America. I saw another 1986 listed down there (VZ) but could not verify the VIN. If...

I love the look of this one with the white and slate blue as well. Great combo. Deserves to be restored!
