For the first time since 1994... I'm Jeepless.

The Gipper is gone. It was at the shop having a couple things taken care of - to get it ready to go back on the market. Another customer saw it, asked the owner about... He wrote a check on the spot. I'm sure I could've held out for a few more bucks. But, it was easy... and done. The guys at...

    For Sale... in this forum

So... I mentioned a while back that I was contemplating parting with my 8, asked for thoughts on consigning, auctioning etc. I didn't mention a price. I didn't ask for offers, etc. I was really after insights from guys who've sold higher-end Jeeps, and other vehicles and what the pros and cons...

Photo shoot fee? For a commercial

Anyone been asked to lend/rent their CJ for a commercial, TV show, etc.? A company asked me today if I'd be interested in letting them use my 8 for a spot their shooting - they'd need it for two days. Unless it's insane money, I'll likely decline. Anyone have any idea what the going rate for...

    At Barrett-Jackson... CJ8 went for $22k

In Vegas for a few days, had to check out the auction. A nicely built '81 CJ8 went for $22,000. It looked like a recent build. Mostly stock too, e.g. 4.2, 20/30, drum/disc, carburetor, etc. A very nice Jeepster went for $28,000. Looked more stock, but had some upgrades, e.g. 4-wheel discs...

V8 power + leaf springs = Squat, twist, shimmy.

Got a question for the suspension experts. I just (finally) got the computer dialed in. Turns out the chip was programmed wrong out of the box. It is running great! The builders (engine and intake) each estimated the power in the 325-340 range. I'm loving it. My suspension... less so. I've got...

Viar 92c or MV-50 air compressor

I had the MV-50 on another truck. It did fine... slow, but never failed. Anyone have any experience/opinion on the Viar 92c? I'm not looking to run air tools, or air up very often. Thanks!

Help me help a friend decide what to do with the family CJ

Some friends have owned a 1978 CJ5 since it was a couple years old. It is 100% stock with 82,000 miles and rust-free. In the past 10 years, it's probably gone 25 miles. Really. It hasn't moved in 5 years - and that was to go to and from a shop, where it got about $1,400 in tune-up type repairs...

    Cutting the rear wheel openings

I snagged a set of TJ fender flares this week. The shape and profile are the same as the Scrambler. But they have a much bigger radius or opening. I haven't mocked it up yet - I have the added step of removing the rear rock rails that are integrated into the back bumper. They have to be cut...

First time in the snow and ice in the CJ... about as expected

I knew the CJ wouldn't be great. It met my expectations - but I had to play! If you own a TV, you've seen what we have here in Atlanta... and how well the city's handling it. With 3" of snow, on an inch of ice, I knew this wouldn't be the Jeep's forte - with 35s, lockers, no computer deciding...

Another off-topic: iPad busted a home burglary "ring" today

This is sort of a PSA. Nothing to do with Jeeps, but good info. My friend's house was hit this morning at about 10:am. The alarm was on. Cameras in place. The guys cut the power, phone lines and cable to the house, smashed their way in - alarm dispatched police - the bad guys had enough time to...

Considering parting with the Scrambler.. crazy huh.

It took 4.5 years to build... and 1 year to realize I'm probably not going to "use" it as intended. I think this is proof one can never build the perfect Jeep... or hotrod... or boat... or train set... My previous CJs were used. And, through their use, I figured out what I wanted and didn't...

    Adjusting soft doors?

My Jeep did something for the first time Friday - it drove in the rain. And when I say "first time" I mean it. Not first time as my Jeep... or first time since ___ work was done. This is the first time period. Until Friday, it's never even driven right after its rained. Gotta say... it was cool...

My Jeep sounds like an old pirate ship! (squeaky)

The Jeep has about 2,500 miles since completion. The suspension is new... well, it's got 2,500 miles on it, but the Jeep did take 4.5 years to finish, so those springs have been under there a while. Here's what's on the list of suspects... - R.E. 4.5" system (shocks, etc.) - Factory sway bar...

    Steering Column/Shaft... Rebuild? Replace?

The column and shaft in my CJ are the only things left of my 1984 CJ7. Everything (EVERYTHING) else on the 8 is either new or rebuilt. So, I guess it stands to reason that the shaft and column are in need of attention. Recently - maybe the past 200-300 miles - I started feeling and hearing...

Putting some tunes in the Gipper

After a ton of research, I think I landed on a solid plan for the stereo in the Jeep. Since CJs are just about impossible to lock - especially with a soft top... or not top, security is a primary concern. The goal with the system was to have it invisible or as close to invisible as possible...

Got yelled at today while driving the 8...

In Atlanta (near Sydney Marcus and Lenox), making a left in a big intersection... about 2/3 through I hear a bunch of yelling... Look over my left shoulder - at a beautiful Scrambler with 3 or 4 people stopped at the other light - everyone yelling and waving. I returned the yell! Only crappy...

    CJ7 vs CJ8 Production Numbers?

This data is out there in lots of forms. But, before I start aggregating and totaling... anyone know (roughly) how the total number of CJ7s and CJ8s produced? Thanks!

Rattling, wobbling swing-away driving me nuts!

I've got an LoD bumper with the swing-away tire carrier. I'm kinda stuck with it - given that it's been integrated into the rock rails. I still like the basic design/looks of the bumper... if I could stabilize the tire carrier. It just squeaks, rattles and wobbles constantly. In the close-up...
