Got an ‘81 Scrambler from 2nd owner. They had it since 1983. It’s been sitting since 1992. It’s down to the frame right now. Goal is to build an around town Jeep, factory restoration save a 2.5 lift and some 31s. Ok, sorry. Question is should the drivetrain be rebuilt? Considering swapping the sr4 for a 176, but a trans with 31k miles is probably in pretty good condition. Same with axle seals and bearings. We will likely rebuild all the brakes at the corners, so what does everyone recommend for everything else? Pull the cover, make sure there’s no water and run it? It also has fluids in all right places and doesn’t leak a drop. Thoughts?

If its down to the frame I would do as many seals and maintenance items as possible. Sitting kills them and leaks will likely start soon. Pinion, all input/output shafts, possibly timing cover and rear main. Get them while it's easier.
