Is that "downtown" housing? I'm trying to remember my geography from the "Birthplace of the Winds" but it's been 3 decades :)

I think it also had an SE bed mat, but the duplex looked recently occupied, so I didn't want to pry, open things, or move snow to check options. I believe the housing we were in was for officers, but I don't know for sure. It was near the McDonalds (which still has the Jurassic Park menu in the drive through). The town and facilities are crazy; it went from a city of 6,000 to 18 almost overnight when the base shutdown, and those final 18 left in 1998. When Congress gave it to the Native regional corporation, the corporation invited shareholders to go out and literally pick out a house to have. There are now around 300 residents.

Much of the original base is still intact, save vandalism from drunks and bored kids. We walked right into where they stored the nucs.

LOL, you could pay for the return trip up there if you picked that you know, every year for the next 20 years or so I'd expect. The seats look OK, +/- the dash pad. (I pay a little attention to that sort of stuff since I'm trying to rebuy those parts for my CJ)

Are you prepared for some really graphic photos? Blood stands out on snow.

Ptarmigan is our state bird. Yes, we eat our state bird.

I was in the pre-Mickey-D years, enlisted, single, and living in the dorms about 8 miles up from "downtown"..between Clam Lagoon and Mt Adagdak. Never saw many Jeeps as a VW tended to be adequate (and disposable enough) for the terrain and minimal snow. How's 'bout some shots from the old days? Compilation of a friend's shots

Adak- When I was in the Navy. We still had the "listening Station" for the Spooks. The joke was there was a woman behind every tree- No trees.

In no particular order:

The one with the white pickup was our rental. Most of these duplexes are vacant.

My wife's uncle died of cancer several years ago, and she was given his Buck knife. It was important to her that I used it on this hunt.

Three of these are actually mine. We had (more or less) two families hunting; I was there with my brother-in-law and his older son, and we split the rental with his friend/co-worker, wife, and son. His son picked up three our first trip out. My brother-in-law bagged one the next morning. So it was just his friend and I out on Sunday. He got two, and I nailed three. We spent the rest of the trip cutting meat, exploring Adak, cutting meat, ptarmigan hunting, and cutting meat. Oh, and we cut some meat. (Did I mention we had to cut meat?)
