Question regarding automatics

Does anyone know what percentage of Scramblers were built as factory automatics?

Nope but a web search might yeild the results, I used to think they were relatively rare, but after pursuing every CJ8 lead I get within so many miles i have seen a number of them. Factory as well.

If I had to take a very very rough guess I would say 25 to 33 percent.

The reason for this larger number of autos than you typically see in CJ7s may be because CJ8's tended to be built as a higher line vehicle slathered with extra packages (and lets face it they werent cheap in the day compared to other vehicles! The window sticker for my 82 is over 12,000).

Wowzers! I never looked into what they went for retail... I bought mine through the soldier and sailor Relief act, new in 85 for around $8,900 if I remember correctly I'll have to take out the paperwork...

I have owned 7 CJ8(I can remember 7 anyway). 3 were automatics from the factory.

At a guess, from those I've seen and the ones I've read about, I would say too many. But that's really just a guess, I can't base that on any factory numbers or statistics. 😃

CJ-8s were about the same price as a corvette. The 392 wrangler is about the same price as a corvette. Some things never change, like chamba dissing on automatics.
