ive been looking at the junkyard lately because i hate having the weakest jeep tranny in my 8. ive seen several places that its a direct swap for a t4 or 5. but what about the clutch setups. i have a hydraulic clutch setup in mine while most of the cj's im seeing have manual clutches. can i use my hydraulic setup on a new tranny? or do i have to go all manual with the clutch.

Reuse your sr4 bellhousing, which the clutch is attached to. Easy swap

what about clutch plates? do i need the ones from the t4 setup or my iron duke setup. id obviously be taking a tranny from a 6 cylinder and putting it in a 4 banger.
ive never done a tranny swap before.

You are going to need a Trans (t-4, t-5) from a 4cyl with the correct spline count on the input shaft
You need to use the clutch disc and pressure plate for the 4cyl flywheel ( I think )

On the CJ I thought that the 4cyl and 6 cyl spline count is the same. On the YJ they were different, but I think that the input to the Dana 300 is always the same.

Now on the clutch disk it self you might have to use one from a t-4/5 as opposed to an SR-4 but they could be the same. Basically the T-4 and then T-5 are progressions on the design of the transmission. I believe length is the same too.

Guess that I should get off of my lazy butt and go out to garage and check.. I have at least one of each out there.

Should be pretty easy to just find a good T-4/5 and bolt it in.
