Well, found out something new and wonderful about my wife today. But first, the back story. Today was the biggest car show of the year here in Redmond. Over 400 cars, sponsored by the local brewery Wild Ride. (Their Juicy Gorilla Snacks hazy IPA is amazing…)

So, we checked it out. Last time around there were several Scramblers- none this time. But a smattering of cool Jeeps none the less…

The FC-170 won a people’s choice award. The last Jeep is actually a Mitsubishi!

Them there were the early Broncos. At least 6. This was the nicest…

On to the meat of the story. My wife has always been a Jeep/VW girl, actually leaning more to VW’s. But today, at the car show, she fell in love. With a 62 Impala. I had always thought my next build would be a Jeepster, or maybe a Wagoneer. Well, not an Impala, that’s for sure. This one was on its way to be a Pro-Touring vehicle. And it was gorgeous. I asked my wife how long she had liked that kind of car, and she said this was new for her too. I’m just happy- I’d rather build a muscle car than a put-put. Although one like this might do…it was at the show too.BF67DC8F-3521-4F43-A6F7-DBEB9328E4F8.jpeg

That Impala is beautiful for sure. My favorite year for those is 65', turquoise/turquoise.

🤣🤣🤣I burst out laughing and woke up the wife! Of course I continued to read the rest of your post and immediately understood where you were going with it. What a great way to start my morning!

The '62 is nice, save the wheel/tire combo, but I am an old... Favorite Impala is a '61 bubbletop, but also if one could be found would be a '61 4dr hardtop. Still a cool front and rear, but easier to carrier folks!.. (Note- if you need 4 doors, buy a Old classic and not an italian jeep... ;) )

It was a cool 70-75 degrees there. Perfect car show weather.

Probably number one choice of low riders. The great look of a hardtop with no post. Bumpers that can. Chrome that is not on plastic. Air conditioning that comes through the windows. Plenty of power. That's one mighty fine cruiser!

I've always wanted a 59 or 60 coupe, but have only managed to keep my Great Grandparent's 74 in the family since it came off the lot in November 73. She's been in a holding pattern for resto, mostly original with some creature comfort updates since 2012. Some day I'll get to it. Back when she was new to me in 2005DSC_0377.jpg

My dad traded in his 64 Impala Super Sport for a 79 Ford Pinto, I'm not sure I can ever forgive him for that.
In my early days of marriage, I traded my '51 Cadillac Ambulance for a '57 VW panel van. Better mileage but what a step down in comfort.
