i found a local wrecking yard with a low mile 99 cherokee motor (9500 miles), it was pulled out of the jeep without all the accessories. they also have a high milage (105k) 95 cherokee motor still in the jeep. my question is will all ther accesories (ie smog, wiring etc.) work with the 99, or will i have to find all the 99 acceccories. they are automatics, so i know i will need to replace the computer. is there a better way to go?

I am currently swapping a 1999 4.0 out of a cherokee into my scram. I was told that you need to plum the motor with all 1995 sensor's, smog, computer (to use the existing custom harness that's available). I'm cheap and am going to mesh the 1999 harness to my 1983 system and am retaining all 1999 accessaries / sensor's. Right now I have the motor and drive train all installed but haven't worked on it in months (new baby arrived). After seeing all the jeeps running around topless now I'm anxious to get back at it.

Depending on what motor you go with you need to use the sensors for the year of your computer. The bolt on accessaries can probably be other years but you need to make sure it plugs into the engine harness. 1996 and newer 4.0's went to the new computer system (OBDII) so I am staying with all 1999 parts to save the hassle of compatibility (it seems like every gadget under the hood feeds into the computer).

The only drawback of the 1999 that I can see right now is how to make my gauges work but I'll deal with that after I get back on the road. There are a couple guys online that have done this swap already and they tell me the scariest part is the wiring harness but it is actually pretty easy. Only 3-4 wires need to be connected from the new harness to the old so help is out there if ya need it.
