82 Limited tranny question

Ok, I came across an 82 with a limited sticker, and a funny transmission. It has a 4 speed, with REVERSE being a push down, LEFT and UP. What is this? This is a 100% stock jeep with only 29k miles and no rust. The vin# offers no help. It has the mirrors on the door itself, and limited emblems on the body. Does anyone know what this tranny is, how many "limiteds" were made... THIS IS A CJ7, but this is the most knowledgeable web page reguarding jeeps and has been much help in the past, so I thougt I'd pick some brains. Thanks for the help!!

I've never seen a 'Limited' in an '82 any CJ jeep. I have an '82 'Laredo' package CJ8, which I think was the most upscale model CJ available. Identifying markings are lower body stripes, chrome wheels/bumpers/ and grill, leather wrapped, adjustable steering wheel, vinyl lined hard doors to match cloth and vinyl high back bucket seats, color coordinted center console, full carpeting. I've never seen an '82 with mirrors on the doors. They've all been on the cowel on a bracket near the upper hinge.
Is this rig in the USA?
I don't have a clue what you have, but if it looks good go for it. How much?
regards, as always, jefe

Mine is not a limited but it is an 82. My 4 speed is the exact same deal, although now i no longer have to push anymore to put her in reverse. I just thought this was a T 4 or maybe an SR 4. Am i mistaken? The Tranny works okay for now but i don't like the reverse position. I plan to switch it out when it brakes. Any other guesses as to what this is?

If it is a 176 that would be good news, my understanding is that they are not a bad tranny, but i don't think it is.

tranny

If I'm not mistaken the sr-4 is the tranny with that goofy shift pattern. The t-4 is to the right and up for reverse. I may be wrong, my wife says that has happened once or twice:D

My T-176 has reverse back and to the right...

the pattern is like this

1 3

2 4 R

I don't know on the sr4 or t4 though... anyone?

I have an 81 with the original SR4 transmission. The shift pattern has reverse in the upper left, and requires you to push down (which is no longer needed). So I would say it's the SR4.

Not the best tranmission to have, but it works:)
