Chevy Front Axle

My friend has a half ton dana 44 front axle out of a chevy sitting in his back yard wasting away and I think for a pretty low price I can buy it from him, (pass. side diff). But Im wondering if it would be worth it to have it cut down to match my 86' Dana 44 rear in width. Also I would want to have to bolt pattern changed to 5 on 5.5, whats the easiest way to do that? So much would I be looking at spending to do this? Or am i better off trying to locate a waggy front axle? Thanks in advance for the help.

A Waggy front will be wider than your rear and also require swapping parts to have five lugs. The Chevy can get to five lugs by using some Ford parts, and the narrowing is not that tough, just make sure to have a pro do the welds if you don't trust yourself.
