Clutch issues

So I replaced my clutch in my 81 scrambler sr4 trans. Repacked bell crank kit and was having the fingers on pressure plate hit clutch springs. Had to adjust fingers. Got it from making noise and would drive. Adjusted clutch and now I can drive 3-5 miles and will grind going into reverse horribly. Or at times it’ll just go in no problem. Anyone ever run into this?

Did you misplace the pivot ball that goes under the throwout on the bell housing?

No sir. Every thing went back together smoothly. I work for a case dealer and do clutch jobs and never have ran into an issue like this before. Can adjust it and go for a little bit and it acts up again. 1-4 shifts fine.
