Spring Assateague run anyone?

I'd like to do a Spring run in the sand & camp for 2 nights.
Preferably before the skeeters get too bad.

Anybody else?
I've never done this & it looks like alot of fun.
You would need to get a permit & make reservations but it beats sittin at home :D

Mike, have you considered a trip to Hatteras Island? There's no bridge toll to get there, no access or ORV permit needed, miles & miles of beach to drive on, no saltwater fishing license to buy. Just a thought; I know a few Scrambler owners who love it there. :)

I'm in for Assateague! Where's Osprey? We tried to do this last year but it never came about! Seems like a good way to start the summer!

Sorry, I missed this thread until today! Count me in, schedule permitting. I was down there this past weekend in my Liberty taking pics of sika and testing out a new sika call. Got to get the permits for my 8 for this year (already got plans for fall sika hunting over there) so I may as well get them now.

I think they are re-building some of the campgrounds this year, so reservations might be hard to get. We should pick a date ASAP. May is normally pretty good - bugs aren't bad yet, summer tourons aren't bad yet, weather is still cool from the ocean temps, fishing is beginning (no fishing license needed there, either)...
 
I also have my permits! I was down there for the oyster festible! What a great time that was! As far as getting a campground i don't think it will be a problem! I'll make a couple calls! What the heck is a sika?
 
These are sika. The tiny little deer that are all along the road on Assateague. Actually related to elk, they are native to the orient and were brought here in the late 1800's. Only two wild herds in the U.S., one on Assategue/Chincoteague and one in lower Dorchester County, MD. All came from the original 5 deer imported here. In October they bugle like an elk, just a lot higher pitch, sounds like a woman or baby screaming in the marsh. Fun to hunt and taste even better than whitetail!
