JUST GO MY T-5 AND DANA 300 INSTALLED. EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THERE IS A LEAK BETWEEN THE TRANNY AND TRANSFER. I INSTALLED IT ONCE AND IT LEAKED SO I REPLACED THE REAR OUTPUT SHAFT SEAL (REAR HOUSING SEAL IN THE HAYNES). THE SEAL WAS INDEED SHOT. I PUT IN A NEW SEAL AND IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN. ANY IDEAS.

THANKS

BUTCH

BIG Leak

I replaced the leaking seal and it appears to be leaking again. I need to drive it a little more to be sure. I called two different shops and they said to use 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil in the newly rebuilt T-5. Could this be the cause of my leak? It it messing up the seal?

Surely someone out there in jeep land has had this happen.

Thanks Butch

84 Scrambler with a leak.

Me too!

I have this problem also, the leak seems to have slowed, (even after I topped it off). I intend to take off the Dana 300, put a new seal in, sand the metal-to-metal surfaces of the tranny and trans case. Then put one of the atf, oil, coolant, etc. impervious RTV sealants on the mating surfaces, put it back together and see what happens! When I get around to doing it, I'll try and remember to let everyone know how it works.
Not sure about the 10/30 oil, I have heard of gear oil being used, but I just use ATF like the Chiltons says.

Ben:rolleyes:

leaky

I had the same problem quite a while ago, but when I pulled the transfercase off I put a new seal in the input shaft of the t-case and a new seal in the output of the tranny, I am pretty sure thats how it was.
