I am itching to get going again on my build project. I have a rolling chassis ready to go but can't do anything else done until I decide what to do with the tub. I have asked questions about this tub in the past (see these threads: https://www.cj-8.com/forum/showthread.php?34175-Replace-just-the-body-mounts-or-the-entire-front-floor-section-Lots-of-pics!&highlight= & https://www.cj-8.com/forum/showthread.php?34324-Best-way-to-replace-front-cab-reinforcement-channel&highlight=). Due to metal fatigue issues, I plan to replace the toe board supports, the next 2 sets of body mounts (going from front to back) and the floor panels using parts from Classic Enterprises). There are also several other small holes and cracks that will need to be fixed.
I have talked to several body shops in the area and the cost to fix this tub right and get it in primer will be around $4k (including $600 in parts from Classic and $400 media blasting and epoxy primer with a guarantee). One guy I talked to wants to do the job in his home garage instead of a professional shop and his cost would be around $3k. I plan to Line-X the interior (I know many of you don't like this) and I am going to use Poison Spyder rock rails and crusher corners, which require large holes to be drilled in the body. Lastly, I would love a true "full" cage that offers protection to 2 rows of rear seats so this will mostly likely result in further alteration of the body.
So, my question is should I buy one of MD Juan's newly redesigned tubs and sell mine to somebody that wants a clean, rust free tub for a restoration? I don't have any sentimental attachment to an OEM tub and will definitely be making alterations as outlined above. I have emailed MD Juan to see when the new tubs will be available and if the CJ8 tub will be made with the Jeep logo.
