Jamboree #180

If it didn't originally come with the CB would the antenna hole be wrong, help me out here. The original brochure shows it in this position but with a black base. But all the ones I've seen (except for the one recently bought in Colorado) have had chrome bases.

There were undoubtedly some "factory" variations in the placement of the antenna, but RM is right about there being a "correct" location for it. The 9/16" hole for the actual antenna is centered on the tub 2" behind the fender seam and 1-9/16" down from the cowl seam.

I've got the template file at home somewhere (I just did this install about 2 weeks ago), but you should be able to find it with a quick interweb search. If you can't locate it, just PM me and I'll get it to you.

Regards,
Bill

p.s. Beautiful Jeep you got there...

Looks great. I'd paint the inside of the tub to match what you've already done.

Okay Guys, this is going to be a pic heavy post. I burned the midnight oil last week and got the Jambo finished to a point to join my Dad on Saturday for a small local car show in Henderson, Texas.

The next day, I continued to wrap up a few more small items, pulled her out of the garage and took some poser pictures.

Well there it is for now. I still need to detail the engine bay and the under carriage. Luckily there is virtually no major mechanicals to do at this time so I can enjoy driving it.

I am trying to decide on a top. I am leaning heavy toward just getting a full Bestop Supertop with split doors, in black, with the tinted windows. I have this system on my 84 Laredo and really like it, even though it does leak.

Looks great! Phoenix Graphics decals on the hood?

I have a Supertop with the two piece soft doors on my green CJ. Really like it, and you can keep an eye out for a set of hard doors to run in the winter. I liked that I can run soft doors/no doors in the summer, and toss the upper doors behind the rear seat in case a storm comes up, then run full steel doors in the winter. The Supertop works with both types of door.

You also should get an AM/FM/CB for the dash. :p

Wow, love that Cherokee! More info/pics on it!

As for soft top, a nice black Jeep SE Whitco would be correct but drilling all the holes is the problem. Too bad the Bestop doesn't have the soft doors with two windows like the originals. I always thought those looked the best.

Actually I have a set of the two window doors, but no top hardware. If they made a black denim skin to match the top I would re-skin the doors, but no such luck.

Here are some pics of Dads Cherokee. It was a barn find locally where we live. Dad is the second owner. It has new paint but the interior is all original. His color (Copper Brown Metallic I think) paired with the topaz gold Jambo make a nice couple.

We really want to do the original graphics package, but no one makes it.

Here is a close up of the "JAMBOREE". I was a tough one to get on and it looks like I have a slight wave in it where it makes the turn over the hump.

Wow ... that was fast & nice restore.

Sorry didn't make the car show to see Jambo.

Did catch up with your Dad and his nice Cherokee Laredo later.

Thanks Dennis,

I think my excitement for this Jambo got me motivated, and being such a clean Jeep to start with made it easy. There is still work to be done, but at this point I can really enjoy it.

Dad was car show crazy on Saturday,

TJ supertop on a CJ7

Well, I finished up another phase of work on Jamboree #180. I had a black supertop for a TJ laying around and scrounged up the missing hardware from my misc. parts bin and went to work. I am real happy with it and there are things about the TJ top I like better, mainly it is wider. The only draw back is I couldn't get the doors in the black diamond material that the top is made of. I also had to trim 1/4" off the belt tab to fit under the rail hardware.

Now I can take her out on colder days.

Looks good! Out of curiousity, how much wider is the TJ top, and what benefit does that offer? Just looking at it I can't tell any difference in that and my circa 2003 CJ/YJ Supertop.

Thanks, Its 72 and sunny in East Texas today, so still get to drive top down.

Basically, as compared to my 84 Laredo super top, this one is a good 1/2" wider on each side which allows for better coverage over the top of the door. On my 84 the top is just short or barely covering the top of the door.

I have never heard of a TJ on a CJ before. Looks good

That's what I was wondering. I've noticed the flap/top of mine basically meets the top of the door. A little overhang would be a good thing.

Is the TJ mounting hardware the same as the YJ? Wondering if, when I need a new skin, I could buy a TJ skin and use on my existing hardware....

Basically the hardware is all the same, but I had some blind luck also. For instance, the TJ hardware slips into a tube at the top of the windshield, where the CJ/YJ has a little twist connect, but I happen to find in junk ben two windshield pieces the received the TJ part, like I said, blind lucky. But for all intents and purposes its the same.

The biggest difference between the TJ and the CJ was the width of the hard plastic strip at the bottom edge of the windows and corners that hooks into the railing that mounts to the tub. On a TJ that railing is built into the tub and is a lot deeper than the mounted hardware pieces for CJ/YJ, so I had to trim about 1/4" off the length of the plastic strip to make it work.

Now, I didn't do this because I thought it would be better, I did it because I had a new one with tinted windows and saved money by making it work, verses paying $600 bucks for a new one. The fact the gave better coverage over the doors was a bonus.
