Not sure if anyone else is into these, but I love Flat Fenders and since Carol won’t let me drive her 1949 CJ3a on the trails (I agree it is too nice), I have been itching for a WWII jeep to build into a wheeling rig. I did not want it to be too nice to wheel.

I found one a couple of hours away that fit the bill. The body is dented and covered in many layers of paint, but only 2 holes. Driver side floor and under the gas tank. Oh and a prior owner cut a hole to use a CJ gas tank with the filler neck coming out of the side. Ahould be easy fixes.

It is serial #37702. Built in June of 1942 based on that number. My plans are currently to take the narrow track axles from the Scrambler and use them here. Dana 44 rear and high steer 30 up front. Both locked. Just need to get some wide track axles built for the 8 before I move them over. Also need to get a cage at some point. I have some time.
 
I know the original hood numbers. Hopefully I will be able to expose those and keep some good patina on e I figure out how to remove many layers of paint applied as this jeep passed through many govt services.

Man I've always found these so cool, but at 6'7" I know I'd never practically fit in one. My grandpa always talks about his friend growing up having one and the fun they had driving it through the woods and mud were he grew up. Crazy to thing how long those have been around.

They are tight, but uou can modify them to allow the seat to move back. But I hear you. At 6 foot, I fit, but knees are into the steering wheel
 
Don't touch the paint!! It looks perfect!!
I would drive that as is!!

Very nice. It will have some patina for sure. But I need to smooth it out at least. Rubbing my hand on it makes it flake. We will see how it goes. The nice part is that i have all if the original parts with matching patina except for one grab handle.
 
I'm 6'1" and I fit...ish... The problem I'm staring to have is my belly is almost touching the steering wheel. I'm not fat but im not slim either. There are repo steering wheels that are 2" smaller. Doesnt help with the leg room though. I've toyed with cuting the wheel well to allow the seat to go back a couple inches but i'm fine with the seating position now. I do put 500-1000 miles on her every summer. guess you just get used to it.

Did a lot of little things on Sunday. It looks a bit more like a Jeep bow that the windshield is temporarily mounted and the steering wheel is temporarily on. It will help move it aroud when needed, but all will need to come back off to do the real work later.
 
Lube up the steering wheel/shaft. They seize on bad.

Considering it. I think it will depend on how much it get driven around town. And even laying it on the hood, while wheeling, it might get damaged more
