Jeep columns(of our CJ8 era) are GM columns so I wouldn't think parts would be hard to come by. Maybe there are some AMC specific parts in them, I never had issues with one personally so I don't know for sure.
There is a guy on Facebook ebook who swears he is the original owner of a V8 CJ8. He gets kinda prissy when he is called out on it and when people ask to see proof(if he has it) that it is a factory V8. He hasn't show proof that I am aware of. Maybe he bought it new as a dealer swapped V8...
I bought this on ebay over 25 years ago when you could easily find cool things cheap. This was I think $46 plus $20 shipping from California to Pennsylvania(it survived). First time i have seen it in 10 years. It was buried in a closet.
Very doubtful you can just buy a replacement glass. The was a compa y called speed glass that you could buy sheets of and cut to desired shape. It was actually polycarbonate that was scratch resistant. No idea if they are still around.
Financial sense, if you can do it yourself, maybe. People who want a Scrambler have limited choices so having A/C might not be a selling point depending where you live. In the south or southwest it could be a big selling point. Up north, not so much.
