1983 Restore in Ga 4bt cummins goin in now

GD, I've got a dumb question then, what cools a diesel? I reviewed your build and of course I don't see a fan but what cools it? I see hoses straight to the block. Is it constant circulation? I am amazed at the torque and would like to see it and hear it. Forgive the dumb question. Beautiful build, too. BTW.

A diesel runs cooler, and my guess would be because of the thickness of the block when compared to a gas motor. My motor never gets hot enought to make a fan come on when I am on the street. I took it to the mountains in early spring and it got a little warmer than it did on the streets but not enough to worry. If I were to go up the mountains in the dead of summer it may warm up enough to kick on. I do have a electric fan wired to a toggle switch . The aluminum radiator disapates alot of the heat on its own. It has a thermostat in it and a water pump but the radiator cools it good on its own.

The 4bt doesn't get hot. I'm not sure of the specifics on why it runs so cool, but I blew my fan fuse driving one day and I drove my jeep (exact same setup as gaducker) all day in 100 degree oklahoma heat and it barely got to where the thermostat opens. The 6bt is pretty similar too. A buddy bought a 96 2500 dodge cummins and drove it 3 hours home with no antifreeze in it. Didn't start overheating until he pulled in to his driveway.

Ha! Just beat me to it. Our rattler jeeps need loctite on everything. I loctite every single nut and bolt regardless if it seems necessary or not now. I told you that my steering was a messed up after I upgrade to the Hummer steering box, well it was because the steering box bolts came loose so I wasn't getting full throw on one side. My jeep is my only vehicle so it's like doing preflight and post flight inspections on the C-130s I worked on. I check it every single day.

You need you a trunk monkey to help with the sterring play and cycle the wheel back and forth.

Got it home and driving it everyday. Put a new driveshaft in last week

Took it to the mountains this past weekend. Figured out that I need the hummer sterring box and may need to add hyd assist. The fronts locked and when the rear locks it likes to go straight. It went up and down some stuff I would have never done if not for the folks in front of me.

Hey man I sold my axles and got a dana 44 rear dana 30 front. Going back to stock and 31's right now maybe 33's later. I have a ram and just bought the hoses for it brand new. You would need to tap the steering box and get the fittings but I'll sell it to you for what I have in it plus shipping. Ram was 60 bucks and I bought two hoses https://www.trail-gear.com/TG/Hydra...eering/i_0_0_/_130255-1-KIT.aspx#.VF_66b64Lww. I leave in 3 days for training so let me know soon. Just send me a text if you still have my number.

Also, if you haven't upgraded your steering shaft then I would def do that. The bell instead of a U-joint allows a good bit of slop that messes with steering.

just saw this, must be gone already? you got pics?

Should a 8274 free spool out pretty effortlessly? Just pull The big knob out ???

I bought me an old tandem axel trailer to convert it to a camper-toy hauler the other day and have been converting to gooseneck and adding length to it.

Is that grass ceiling a fire hazard? LOL

That's the safest place to put it, The lifts are on the other end of the shop so its a good 30 feet to the blind. And when I work on this end of the shop I pay attention to which way I am throwing sparks. I sprayed it with thompsons water seal when it was new so it would prob flash pretty quick...lolololo.
