2011 SOA National Scramble - Ouray, Colorado

Snow in July? C'mon. Are you guys leading me on a snipe hunt or something? It's not nice to play jokes on us Ohio Valley guys.

My main fear is that I might not want to come home.

We'll get to see how the J-truck hauls the Jeep for this nice long week in colorado! Just got to figure out how to be gone from the office for two weeks!

Like Kohldad suggests it would be good to attend two events when traveling so far. Hope it can happen that way. Might have to take off two weeks off from work (twist my arm, ouch).

Tim

Pre-National Scramble Run

If anyone who is coming to the National Event wants to do some more difficult trails the weekend before, I will be happy to lead some trails here in Montrose. There is a new trail called Boulder Canyon that is the most extreme trail I have ever been on. This trail is for the extreme rigs only with at least 40 inch tires, lockers on both ends and a winch. It is a blast.

For all of you who thinking about or are planning to attend the 2011 SOA Event in Ouray next year this site is a good place to start. http://www.ouraycolorado.com/

Also Ouray Chamber Resort Association has a real nice `Visitors Guide Package’ that you can request and they will send to you. This packet contains two nice foldout maps. One map is a street map of Ouray and one shows the major roads around the Ouray area. Send your request to:

The SOA is currently forming the Event Committee and plan to get a lot of info to you shortly.

Yep, seen it personally myself....

We used to go to SW CO each summer and our plant had set vacations due to shutdowns. Would be around July 4th every year. Many mornings you wake up to 28 degrees and this was when we had the pop up before the motorhome.

Some of the best times we have had camping in that neck of the woods.:D

I want to attend this in the worst way!!

I want to bring my daughter along, I was hoping it would have been closer to the begining of July so that it does not conflict with her highschool schedual is all. (band camps)

As for the Snow, well, I have seen it snow 12" in Wyoming (Yellowstone) the first week in July, so its no joke about the passes being closed.
Personally, I hink that would be part of the fun :D

I need to do ALOT of work to get the rig ready for that trip, I dont have a tow rig, so I have to drive it there. :banghead:

What do you local guys think will be the MINIMUM build to have for this run?

OH, one more thing....what are the rules (if any) about pets?
If I have to leave the Dog home, well that will cost a huge amount of money I dont have....

Well, from my standpoint, the minimum build is 1/2" shackle lift, 1" body lift, 31s, 2.73 gears, 258, open diffs. That's what I have and I am coming, ergo, that's the minimum build as far as I am concerned.

If you go to the Ouray website listed above, there is an "Off Road Adventure" link with a map and description of the popular trails. Lots of 1s & 2s, along with the tougher stuff.

At the 2010 Colorado Scramble Jim (DOUG) Benoit wheeled his nice stock Scrambler thru all trails except for Poughkeepsie Gulch with no problems.

Also my son Clif wheeled my daily driver thru all trails including Poughkeepsie Gulch. Running 33s. 1 1/2" spring lift

If I'm truly lucky enough to make this trip, I'll be driving my 8 out & back,......so...........that means I have no choice but to take it easy and not break anything expensive or hard to repair/replace. My only other thought is a tow dolly, but I figure the money I'd spend for that would be better spent on a few things my 8 needs to make it a little more road-trail friendly.
Yea, I can't wait for July either!

No restrictions. The SOA is family orientated. To me dogs are family. Best to keep on a leach on the trails as they can disappear fast if they see wild life.

Well, its great to hear about the dogs, and that Colorado is a Dog friendly state.
Even with that, I always have to ask. Most people are terrified of my dog, he's a 105# German bred, German Shepard.
Not the normal little beasties most people are used to.
As for keeping him on a leash, no problem, he's not the type of dog that I would let run anyhow.

Sounds like I dont have to worry about building the Jeep for anything more than it already is.

Thanks for the information guys

OK, so this may be a bit far out yet, but this gig is only 8 months away.

Has anyone thought about where they are staying for this?
Who's camping?
Whos getting hotels/cabins?

I will be camping, so which of the local campgrounds would be the best one to stay at?
I am planning on being there for 8 days or so.

Looking forward to this already
