2011 SOA National Scramble - Ouray, Colorado

4J is not completely full. Made reservations today for two RV sites, water and electric only - 24th through the 27th. Jill said they still have one site left for those dates with sewer.

The old Timber Ridge campground, now called Ouray RV Park & Campground is on the north end of town. It is really a RV park but they do have camping cabins. The old owners sold last season and the new owners are supposed to be much more friendly.

Anybody have info on this place? The Chamber doesn't have a number for them.:banghead:
I found a number online but when called, it went to a voice mail with no message.
I need a good number, website, address, etc.
Help.....

Thanks Ken, I called them. They don't have anything big enough for my trailer.

The KOA is a good place to stay. The live band they had last year was nothing less than terrible. The grounds are clean, breakfasts are pretty good....two can share one breakfast. There is another RV park in town, (now called Ouray RV park)......I know nothing about the new owners, (as of 2010). You can walk to the evening assembly area from there. (It used to be called Timber Ridge Campground).

Coming from Texas or anywhere from the south east, I recommend you do NOT take 550 north from Durango. It is 74 miles of 3 steep passes, (one very steep). It's very hard on your tow vehicle/towed rig and first timer nerves.......sheer drop offs and no guard rails.

If there is any interest, I can recommend a better route from Texas/southeast.

Remember, your gas rig will lose 30-40% horsepower as you get up in the altitudes. Don't get in a hurry, enjoy the ride and be safe.

I could use the help with routing because google shows me going up 550.
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks Rock-n-Roll, I wouldn't want to scare my wife half to death before we even get there.

Carbureted

I need to make the final decision on wether or not to bring my Scrambler to Ouray. I have a GM 350 with a Holley Truck Avenger carburetor. What issues am I going to face at that altitude?

George,
I have the same setup you have. I have been to Colorado twice with with this setup and no problems. Bring it on. And Jason said for you to bring beer. The kind you like that he likes.

I'm sure considering going to this event but the cost of a room for 4 days is gonna hurt...

Yea, but not near as bad as our gas bills! :rotfl:

Made reservations today, so we're all set. Looking forward to it! Unfortunately it turned into only a week long trip instead of 2 weeks, but what can you do? The wife ended up with a schedule conflict, so I guess I'll have to suffer through a week on the beach at the in-laws place instead. Just need to get the Jeep ready now and figure out how I'm getting it out there! May have to see if I can find an enclosed car hauler. Any place rent those?

So which hotel would someone recommend my family stay in for this event? Tonight we decided to make this event a priority on the "to do" list.

Thanks for the info. Yea, I was actually interested in River's Edge. In the pics it looks like a pretty decent place to stay-

My registration money has been sent and my room has been reserved. Now I better get on the ball and get my Jeep ready. I my wife and I are stoked for this vacation.......

The 2011 SOA Event Committee is still looking for some volunteers to sign on to serve as backup or assistance trail guides at this year’s National Event at Ouray. This will be for the Easy/Mod/Difficult trails.

We thank Shawn Rants for his offer to help. Can anyone else help?

PM Pappywaho if you have any questions or want to help us out.
