The next trail we will be guiding, and highlighted here, is Imogene Pass. Google describes the trail as, Imogene Pass is a high-altitude, rugged 4x4 trail in Colorado's San Juan Mountains, connecting Telluride and Ouray, known for stunning views, mining history (Tomboy Ghost Town), steep grades, and obstacles like ledges and rock gardens, generally open from summer to early fall (July-Oct) and requiring high clearance/4WD for its challenging, but rewarding, scenic drive.
We still need to decide how we will run this, the two options are running pavement to Telluride and then taking Imogene back to Ouray or doing the opposite and running Imogene directly out of Ouray towards Telluride. The later option is most likely what we will do as it allows for more time spent in Telluride in the afternoon. Need to make time for those $20 burgers in Telluride!
When we last ran Imogene we hit it after doing Black Bear into Telluride first, that made for a long day on the trails.
This video shows the trail and scenery really well.
