So the cut was made a few inches back parallel to the line/crease where the hump meets the lower part of the hood. Then straight up just below where the curve starts. Then back to the start of the cut. Triangle. The same was done to the other side. The front/bottom was cut following the line that spans across the hood brace as wide as the top hump. The left over material was cut leaving 1/4" or so to allow it to be rolled so there is no sharp think edge. Therefore, the scoop is rolled and tough and not flimsy adding strength. Sorry I did not take step by step pics initially.
The top was then gently lifted (using a metal DOM tube in place perpendicular to secure it and to ensure an even/level mouth opening). Now the cut looks rectangle. That is the difference of the cut. The gaps were then filled in with 14g sheet metal (first cut out of cardboard before cutting out of metal to ensure proper fitment). Tack welded them in place (remember to rotate the pipe or it will be hard to remove after the gaps are welded in place. having the pipe remain in place ensures the height is not altered). Then used metal to metal body filler (evercoat). This is a metal like bondo to ensure there is no cracking like bondo did in the past for me. Then sanding. Some more sanding. Oh and then sanding some more. My buddy Glenn whom replicated this marvel about had enough of sanding.
So far with an accidental fall from a vertical start and onto the grill (wife accidentally opened garage door while hood was up, oops) + some heavy offroading/flexing this past weekend, it's holding like a champ. I plan to add bedliner under the hood in a week or so. This will also help hide the inner metal work/weld + look nice/clean like it was in the past to complete the replication
It has been 5+ years since the Jeep had been back to Trees Ranch after the latest build so this was a sweet and much anticipated return and attempt some areas I had trouble with the old setup. From memory I went back and posed in areas I had posed years back to illustrate the changes. Video coming soon.
