Talkilng with a buddy of mine about air shocks. I once had some on an El Camino many years ago but they seemed really bouncy when not filled with air then they road too hard when filled. They came with the vehicle and they were still on it a year later when I sold it. Its been my only experience with them.

Are they better now days?

How long do they last compared to regular shocks?

No idea if they are better but not generally thought to be a good idea on a 4x4. One reason is that the shock mounts are not designed as load carriers which they become when the airshock load capacity overcomes the suspension's load capacity => broken off shock mounts. Now there are hi end air shocks, hydraulics, combos, coilovers, etc that work well as a part of a new suspension design but that's not a trivial job. Also, there are air bag helpers that install between the axle and frame that help with load carrying but i don't know that they'd be effective on a 4x4 other than to jack it up and take out flexibility
