I have some side rails I got from firemanhank but my '81 did not come with them so my tub and rollbar have no holes to mount them. I've got to drill some holes I know, but ? is do the holes in the rollbar that accomodate the side rails forward have sleeves welded in them or are they just bolt though ? Do the bolts go completely through or just thread into the rollbar on the outer side ?
Did the original mount use Torx bolts or regular ?

Thanks,
Drew

I have no rails, but thru-holesmon the bars. No sleeves, no threads. I think stock had a washer and nut. Unsure if Torx for the bolt.

my wood is missing as is the hardware but it came with it from the factory as i have the original window sticker. the holes on the roll bar are just drilled and tapped on the outside. it doesn't go all the way through. i can take pics if you want. pm me. i can also take some of the rear holes and measurements if you want. i have no idea on the bolt style. my guess is torq's or allen head as everything else on these things are. good luck

Side rails........

Thanks, that's all I really needed to know. I've got a set of complete rails and it's easy to figure out where they bolt on both on the tub and the rollbar. But you gave me the piece of information I was missing and that is "how" they bolt on. I'm real happy to know they don't require sleeves to be welded in, it'll be a lot easier to tap those holes. And since I have the measurements from SOA website the rest will be just drill and tap.
Thanks a lot for your help and info.

If you need any more info, let me know and I will take measurements of mine. I have the original rails, bolts, holes, etc.

my best guess by looking at the threads in the rollbar they are very course as there is only 1 to 1 1/2 threads in each hole.
