Hey, silly question but I am painting and powder coating most of the engine pieces now and am bead blasting the automatic dip tube and dip stick end for refinishing. Can someone tell me what color the tube and the end of the dipstick where originally? My tube is not colored at all and the end of the dipstick has been repainted. I'd like to make it stock if possible.

Thanks,
Mark

Black to match the engine I would think. But they may have been unpainted IIRC. I seem to think that they are galvanized or tin coated, as I rarely see one rust.

Ok, thanks CBRogers. That fits what I am seeing. The tube is not painted at all and the end of the stick is definitely not a factory color. I might powder coat them gray or aluminum color to look somewhat stock after I remove the spray paint on the end of the stick...not sure if the factory coating is still under it now.

I don't have an automatic so I don't know what color the original color was, but maybe match the Oil dipstick tube and handle. Black tube with Yellow handle.

Might look original if they matched even though it may not be the correct color.

I thought about that too, but my oil dipstick handle is light blue...seems original but I am not 100% sure. It is a tough coating, though, almost like powder coat. Anyone know for sure what was OEM on an '83?

Thanks
Mark
