i need help deciding what axles i have an 85 scrambler with a straight six and stock axles im runnig a 4 inch bds lift and 35 X 13.50 X 15 toyo open country mts and i will put in 456 gears and maybe a locker whats the best axle for me ill be running on the street mostly and go offroad everynow and then mostly trail riding up at uwharrie and around my town.

Your stock wide track axles (dana 30 front, model 20 rear) with one piece axles in the rear will be sufficient for your intended use.

My .02 cents would be to drop a ford 9 inch or a ford 8.8 with disc brakes already on it in there. I have run the AMC 20 ( spins outter hub assemblies) , I currently have the 86 CJ7 dana 44 in mine now and will sell it in a heartbeat. I'm tired of replacing the seals in it every year. ( I hate leaks )

The gear selectiion for those 2 axles are great and no special tools to set up ring and pinion. The 8.8's are plug and play for gears and the 9 inch can be done in less than 2 beers. Plus if your in with any U-Pull-It yard you can get them for cheap. Dont get me wrong now .... you'll have to do a little work to get the right fit but you didnt say it had to be an exact fit either. But if money is no object get a Currie dana 60 built rock crusher and be done with it for the life of the jeep. LOL

I also agree that the stock widetracs will work. The one piece axle conversion will do the trick in the rear. TruTracs front and rear work great for a mostly street vehicle. The 5 bolt locking hubs on my Dana 30 were problematic as the bolts on the hub wouldn't stay tight. Most guys will tell you that is a common problem with them. Nordlock washers work well to combat that issue. I got mine from Fastenal. With that said if you have any thoughts about going to larger tires and lockers at a later date, I would go straight to at least Dana 44's or larger, that's what I did after spending a bunch doing just what I described above.

Stick with stock wide tracks and one piece rear axle for the AMC 20. Ford 8.8 runs different bolt pattern than CJ.

D44's will serve you well with 35's. I'd go with 427 or 410 gears with a Tera low in the t-case if you're going to daily drive it. That way you can preserve the mileage on the highway and have low gears when needed. For lockers, if you're in the snow at all (after looking at your address I don't think so) I'd go with a selectable locker...ARB, E-Locker, etc., Just my opinion.
