Battery/ignition switch question

If you don't turn the key so's the Steering wheel locks up, could the battery drain?
Took my Scram to the Trannie shop when I blew third gear. They called today and said the battery was dead and I am suspicious.

yes it can.mine's got a spot that you can remove the key and the ignition is still on.my company truck does the same thing.As the switch wears everything gets loose.
