So I am thinking of replacing my OEM brake lines before they become a problem. I thought I found a set for my 1981 at inline tube, but after calling them they don't make a set for narrow track axles. Everything they have is for widetrack axles. I called there and the guy tells me that no CJ8's were ever made with narrow track axles, only CJ7's. He confirmed with his shop guy that CJ8's were never narrow track. This is contrary to what I thought which was that 1981-1982.5 Cj8's were narrow track axles. In any event, does anyone know if there is a company that makes an OEM style set for 1981's with narrow track axles?

I love it when the shop guys think they're experts. I went in last week to talk to a shop about working on my axles, and told them I had an AMC20 rear axle. The guy said CJs only used those axles in the early to mid 70s.

If I weren't living in a one horse town I would have tried to find another shop to do the work.

All the parts stores have them. Also narrow track was 81 only for the scramblers.

Oh and I would look them up as hoses for 79,80, or 81 CJ7. Much more common and same hose.

'81 was narrow track and maybe a few early '82's but not many.

Give Jim Zettel at J-Z Ventures a call (248-722-9427) or email at jzventuresllc@gmail.com. He should be able to help you out.

Have them mix and match a set for you... Get a CJ8 setup, but ask them to swap the narrow track lengths for the wide track axles themselves... I am sure they could do that if you asked them.
It is only a few inches difference.

I guess I should clarify that I am looking for the hard lines (metal) that run all over, not the rubber hoses. Sorry for the confusion.

CB..I will give your idea a try, but talking with these guys they were supremely confident that they were right and I was wrong about a CJ8 even having narrow track axles. Not sure if they'd Frankenstein a kit for me or not, but I'll try.

They make them my 81 has new ss hard lines and is narrow track..

It really doesn't matter what you have... you tell them, they don't tell you.
I have a 1978 with wide tracks... never came that way, but when I got lines for it, I said it was a 1978 with 1983 axles... said it was pieced together and in the end came up with the right kit, power brakes and such that needed the different sizes.

If you explain the situation and tell them the measurements, they will agree that they are narrow at some point.
