I have an 84 with a 258, very low miles. Major problems lately with stalling at stops such as signs. lights. I could be wrong (and am willing to listen to any advice) but I think I either jumped time or have distributer problems. Next year I plan to fuel inject and change to 4.0 head. Question is? can I buy a D.U.I. distributer now that will work with these upgrades later?
P.S. My BD Carb is a rebuilt I bought last year.(was running great before I put away for the winter) I did use fuel stabilizer Noticed that the timing was set at 16 BTDC (High Altitude) and
that the sticker said the timing recomended was 16 BTDC but my jeep now lives in NY below sea level so I went 9 BTDC Isn't that right? It seems the Sole-Vac saves me from stalling when in my shop, but on the road she stalls. I checked for : vacuum leaks, timing, carb adjustments, plugs, wires, cap, rotor,TAC functions.
I would also like to mention, that when I changed time to 9
while watching the timing it moved at least 4 degrees at one time. I assumed that I did not tighten dist. enough. Could I have jumped time? This thing is supposed to have only 2000 miles on it.
Is our CJ 8 timing gear steel or plastic" My 74 J10 pickup was plastic and fell apart at 35000 miles
